We have stayed in the hotel before and were given a canal view room with a large window that opened out. This time we were late getting to the hotel and had some issues with our luggage. The reception staff were so helpful and caring and provided us with all the help they could, the give us each a drink whilst we waited at reception whilst our room was sorted out. We then went up to our room 521, the room was awful, it was an old room, our view consisted of a wall, you opened the door and could see nothing, if the wall was not there we would have had a view over the canal. Due to the issues with our luggage and the bad room I went to ask to be moved straight away but I was kindly told the hotel was full and that I could be moved first thing in the morning. The next morning we were moved to room 312, this was a great room with a view over the canal, like the one we had before. The reception staff also left in the room a fruit basket and a bottle of wine with a card saying sorry for the problems we had, this was a lovely gesture. The breakfast in the hotel is great, one of the reasons for our return. There is lots of choice in the buffet and you can also have eggs, bacon, hash browns and waffles cooked to order. The prosecco is also a nice touch, try to get a table by the side window or the front as its great, we sat there for nearly 2 hours one morning. All in all a great hotel but do email or call in advance to get the refurbished room as I would not pay for the first room again!!
Great staff, great breakfast and the location is one of the best in Amsterdam. Leidseplien has something for everybody, nice cocktail bars try ienjoy and little Buddha, the bulldog is great for drinking and smoking weed as there are not many places where you can do both, the happy feelings coffeeshop is also great for water pipes. There are lots of restaurants in the area, some not the best quality but some are lovely. If you are staying in this hotel get the 197 bus straight to the airport oly takes about 20 to 25 mins and runs every 15 to 20 minutes the bus stop is right outside the hotel and saves having to get the train and tram, it costs 4 euro.
