“1st Europe trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2012

This hotel is in a great location in Central Amsterdam. When you go out of the hotel, the tram stop is literally outside the building. The Centraal Station is about a 10 minute walk or a 3 minute tram ride. I would suggest that you buy one of the "I Amsterdam" city card so you'll get a free canal cruise, unlimited tram and bus rides, and it even gives you free stuff or discounts at other shops and restaurants. The concierge is very helpful and honest. When I asked them if they exchange foreign currency, they suggested that we go to the market since they have better rates and doesn't charge fees. The rooms are small though but you're never in there anyway, At least I wasn't and if you are in your room the whole time and you're on vacation, then you've got serious issues! I would definitely stay here again!

Had a great time staying here. The location is great. Close enough to the train station and right next to the Dam and the city center. Next door is a shopping center with a store that sells tickets for bus rides and events for a cheaper rate than usuall. The room is nice and clean. A pretty nice place to stay in Amsterdam.

We arrived about 7 am hoping to leave our bags after a 24 hr trip and were given an early check in. What a relief! The 1st room smelled of cigarettes so we were given a new room right away. The room was clean and had a lovely Juliet balcony with views over the street.
Staff very helpful and friendly. The bar has great character although they were not offering meals while we were there.
Tram stop right at the door and 5 minutes walk to Central station and very close to the Dam and Kalver Straat. Supermarket virtually next door. Very handy.

Room Tip: Front rooms are noisy with the trams.

I stayed at this Hotel in April 2012 for a girly weekend. The Hotel I believe was the first Heineken brewery until 1870. The Hotel is very traditional and still has some of the original features. You cannot go wrong for the location it is steps away from Dam Square & central to most of Amsterdams attractions. Opposite the Hotel is an excellent Smoothie bar that does various smoothies, fresh juices, pancakes and waffles everything is delicious- a must try!!! Tea & Coffee making facilities are available in the rooms which is handy & the Hotel offers FREE WIFI.
Dont get a taxi from the Airport to the Hotel if you are on a budget as they where charging between 50-70 Euros which is a complete rip off!!! We chose to take the train from the Airport to Amsterdam Central station and then we walked to the Hotel which took about 15-20 mins this cost us approx 4 Euros per person! If you dont want to walk from the station to the Hotel you can get the metro link which stops just outside the Hotel. Amsterdam is a fascinating City, I would definately return and wouldnt hesitate about staying here again!

The building from the outside is very grand and full of character however this ends once you approach reception and speak with the staff! They do not have any personality and one staff member couldn't get away quick enough when we asked her for directions somewhere.
The rooms however are adequate, some a lot smaller then others as we had 3 and ours was very dingy but the other 2 were very large so its luck of the draw really although our room was fine for the one night and clean so no complaints there really. The hotel is under refurbishment so the air-con isn't working and this is very apparent in the middle of the night as it becomes very warm, they do however advise of this by the air-con button in the room.
The bar downstairs is a little over priced compared to a couple of yards out of the hotel so with this in mind we didn't eat there although we did later hear that the hotel does the best steak in Amsterdam!
All in all I would say for 1 or 2 nights, location in mind this is an adequate hotel however I would stay somewhere else next time as the reception staffs attitudes put me off ever returning which is a shame! Think we will try the The Dam Best Western next time.

Room Tip: luck of the draw I am afraid although I know room 116 is large and I cant remember the other large r...

I visited Amsterdam with my husband for our Silver Wedding Anniversary in June 2012. The hotel was in a very good location but it was not a 4* hotel by any means. The room we had was very tiny on the 1St floor and we had to balance our suitcase ontop of the wardrobe so we could move about the room. The bed was very comfy and even though we were next to the lift it was quite. The bathroom had a smell about it, though this did fade after use.
The staff were friendly and helpful and our room was cleaned every day.
I would rate this hotel at a 3*

I visited Amsterdam with my husband for my birthday in March 2011. The hotel had some bad reviews but we went with open minds (well it was Amsterdam after all). The hotel is a low 3 star. The lifts were iffy and we had two single beds pushed together. My husband trying to be romantic had booked a room with a balcony. nice idea but we heard the trams come and go from the early hours of the morning until late at night. However the staff were friendly, the breakfast was nice enough and the bar was nice and cosy. The location is absolutely great. We are going back again in September of this year but will not stay here again unfortunately.
