First thing that strikes you is the beautiful building I have stayed all over Amsterdam but this is by far the best place we have stayed. As we were coming to Amsterdam to smoke as much good marijuana and hash as possible we struck gold by getting a smoking room in the hotel which is very rare in Amsterdam nowadays.Homegrown Fantasy is right across the street and Grey Area is a stoned stumble away as well, Dam square is a minute away to.
I read some dodgy reviews about the smoking rooms in this place but i was very happy with mine with a great street view to stare out at and take in the madness.I cant praise this place enough and will be staying here every time from now on. Did i mention they have smoking rooms.... the package we got online was an amazing price as well for such a great located hotel.

Was a bit apprehensive as reviews are mixed but would stay again for a weekend break. It is the site of the original Heineken brewery and the building is lovely. Has a cool, charming bar downstairs and the steaks in the restaurant were excellent. Great location too, handy for everything. If only they spent some money refurbishing the rooms it would be fantastic for a weekend break- tired, characterless decor, two single beds pushed together for a double bed but made up as single beds - toilets were fine though and had TV, safe, kettle etc. There were 14 of us staying here for a (civilised) joint stag/hen weekend- perfect for putting your head down and meeting in bar etc but probably not for families or people wanting a classy room.

I was at this hotel about half a year ago, rooms were already average, but at least the clean rooms and great service would compensate that.
I was just back a few weeks ago as I was happy with previous experience; this hotel is badly managed, and rooms and public area are dirty, trays with food left on the corridors.
Breakfast buffet almost empty while staff was constantly on the phone. I asked for a wake up call but they forgot about it. I asked for help with my luggage when I checked out, but was told there was no staff available to help.
I spoke to the (restaurant?) manager but he didn't seem to understand our frustration, didn't take the time to listen to us and didnt not even offer a drink...Dutch hospitality...

We stayed in one of the superior suites facing De Oude Kerk. The window is directly above the entrance, first from the left in the photo. While this particular room was very spacious, I also saw one of the regular rooms, and it was tiny: this is definitely something to keep in mind when making your reservation. Our room was clean except for the two chairs with impressive stains. The rest of the furniture was clean and well kept. There were also a couple of cigarette burns on the side of the bath tub. Bathroom is nothing special, but adequate. We definitely didn't like the wall-mounted hand soap dispensers. Sheets and towels were spotless.

Staff performance was immaculate for the most part. For some reason the room service didn't replace the shampoo bottles once we ran out, so I had to ask for more at the front desk. Other than that, no problems whatsoever.

Overall I'd say this hotel may be past it's heyday, but our room was pretty clean and spacious, and the service was good. We wouldn't mind coming back.

Die Port van Cleve Amsterdam has plenty of character and is very well located, a few minutes from Centraal station and close to Dam Square. The hotel bedrooms are roomy and perfectly acceptable as a base for a lads trip, and the breakfast was unremarkable. Being the original home of the Heineken brewery, the bar is commensurately very pleasant indeed. With a better option across the street (the Sofitel Convent Hotel) and the American Hotel off Liedesplein, I wouldn't select Die Port van Cleve for a business or a romantic trip.

Visited this hotel as a birthday trip for my husband. Booked it through Thomas Cook and because it was so reasonable I decided to pay for an upgrade. Well on arrival at the hotel we were dealt with by a very efficient male receptionist and given directions to our room, he even helped us book a trip on the canals it was night trip which served cheese and wine, trip was not that cheap and we only got 3-4 cheeses and a couple of glasses of wine - so beware.

Now getting to our room, although it was clean we had to climb down what I would call stairs that were very very steep and very narrow which left us glad that our cases were not any bigger., also if there was to be fire we would not have stood a chance . I would comment that the room was quiet but not by any stretch of my imagination would I have called the room an upgrade!! Beer was at least 1 Euro than pubs outside so it was worth going a walk. There is also a cracking little supermarket just to the left which we did not discover until quite late in out break. Breakfast was dear but is worth shopping around, also there are loads of eateries scattered about most of them very reasonable.
