The Kras is a superb hotel, and on previous trips I have always found it to be top drawer. However this time I was not quite so lucky, and found myself in a tiny, tobacco-smelling room at the back of the hotel - no Dam Square view this time. Given that the hotel gets a lot of custom from our company, this was a surprise.

The hotel is located on Dam Square, great location and just a 10 minute walk from Centraal Station. Staff are friendly and efficient, the downstairs areas are grand, and the bar is well-stocked.

In short, great hotel but be aware that not all rooms are as good as each other.

Having stayed in this hotel about ten years ago and had a wonderful time, I had been looking forward to a great weekend stay with my husband and another couple. We had recommended the hotel to them and in fact paid much more than we had intended, but hoped it would be worth doing.
It was apparent as soon as we arrived that things had changed. The number of people queuing to check-in/check-out was dreadful. Check-in was slow.
The room we were eventually allocated was on the fifth floor. It was supposed to be non-smoking, but it was immediately obvious that this room had been smoked in. We must have spent over an hour sorting out a room change. We were very disappointed by the tiny room our friends were allocated on the third floor.
The only saving thing about this hotel is it's location, which is perfect.
I was very disappointed to see how shabby and well used the hotel fittings appeared. The dining room chairs in The Winter Gaden had seen better days.
All in all, I would probably not choose to stay at this hotel again.

Have stayed at the Krasnopolsky a number of times now and its location, breadth of services, and efficient staff combine to make this a very comfortable and useful hotel. It values its reputation and history which reflects in the staff ethos and hotel decoration. You can experience some quirks and the efficiency of the front desk can suffer with queues forming and other people milling around in a thorough fare. The breakfast cost is eye watering, even for an extensive spread. A stay of six nights was favourably received resulting in an upgrade which was appreciated and there were no complaints about the room, good bed, decent sized business desk, quiet, and easy temperature control. During a period of security issues outside, normal activities inside were oblivious to those crowds such is the manner in which it operates.

great central location, grand hotel, good service and value for money. couldnt complain at all
