“Great canal apartment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

Staff at this hotel are wonderful. They did everything in their power to make sure that we were happy. Robert, Caroline and one other lady there, unfortunately I forget her name, were so good to deal with. They all deserve raises. We had a great apartment in the back and just loved it. Thanks.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

I spent three days at a large meeting in this hotel that is centrally located in Amsterdam in front of the Royal Palace. It has a roaring twenties look and feel, with some fantastic rooms such as the breakfast garden.

So, why only three, and not five stars? Modern five star hotels have stone, marble or wooden floors, not carpets. The bathrooms, while impeccable, have a pale green gym locker room look, complete with half-door toilets. But the main reason of my unhappiness was the wifi situation---the connections are painfully slow, require a multi-screen login voodoo rite, and are limited to 100MB per day, which is not enough to stream even part of a sports event.

The staff is very friendly, but there is no night-time concierge---an inconvenience for those who need to leave for the airport at 5am, say.

On Dam Square, close to most cultural activities, museums and restaurants, the hotel is ideally located. We occupied for 8 days a large and sunny appartment offering a charming view of a canal. The service was efficient and the concierge advices to the point. Thanks to Mandy and Maurits for helping us.

We stay in the hotel at the weekend. They upgraded our room from a Standard room to Deluxe room with a small balcony. Bathroom broad and fun. Great service also includes night service. Free wi Fi. We had a rainy weekend and the hotel lends large umbrellas.

NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky have ancient look from the outside but it has touch of modern age inside. It may look unattractive from the outside which may largely be due to the prevailing culture in Europe and the surrounding buildings, notwithstanding, it is beautiful right from the reception to the dining/restaurant arena. Although the staff are always in a hurry thereby ingoring the most valueable ethics of hospitality business which is about personal service to the customers. The hotel needs to improve on showing courtesy to the customers particularly the front desk officers. Nonetheless, the breakfast setting is very commendable with the provision for varieties of food. Although we actually paid for a room but ended up in an apartment at the back of the main building which looked like a basement to us. This actually deprived us of enjoying a view of surrounding buildings from our room.

Room Tip: Except one needs extreme quietness, ensure you decline basement apartment in place of a room in the...

I agree with the reviews in here. This hotel may have been 5 star 10-20 yrs ago but now it is very dated and shabby. Rooms are clean enough but dated. Service is mediocre and the staff are not very attentive or dressed well. Price is poor despite the location. There are better hotels nearby that are better value (convent for example). Even the free wi-if is stingy (100mb and you pay over that)? Fine for browsing but me and my partner were working so this was eaten quickly. Most other hotels in Amsterdam don't have limits (and all offer free wi-if, I've stayed in a lot if places). Breakfast also isn't included in the std price which is poor. Fine as a one off but wouldn't come back.
