My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend. The location was ideal: we easily walked to all of the major museums in the city and never once had to use public transportation. It is close to the Red Light district but not too close. The square (Dam Square) the hotel sits on is very lively well past midnight and there is a lot of foot traffic in front of the hotel. The location of the hotel is also good for finding your way back -- it seemed all roads led near our hote and the huge monument in Dam Square is hard to miss. The room was very clean, had nice toiletries, minibar, iron, nice TV, comfortable bed, good A/C, coffee/tea service (free). Rooms were quiet as well.

We didn't eat at the hotel but a peek at the breakfast buffet made us wish we had. Another perk: right behind the hotel is a great tasting room to try liquors in an awe-inspiring range of flavors.

One note: this might apply everywhere in the city center, but parking was very expensive!

Such a superb location. A lovely hotel and the rooms we got (2 twin superior rooms) were lovely. It was very comfortable and the breakfasts were great.

There was not a great choice of hotels in the beginning of May, and we had to choose this hotel for a short city break. Overall, it's a good place close to everything in the city. Service is ok, breakfast is good (although costs 20+ euro)... But there are some drawbacks that I wouldn't expect from the 5star hotel priced at 250 euro plus. Room was not cleaned properly, some stuff was left by previous tenants in bathroom. Somebody barfed in the elevator, and this smell lasted until I checked out... it was really disgusting and encouraged to use stairs. So, next time I would find something more modern and better served, or at least cheaper.

This was our 2nd stay at the Kras and was our last. In short, the shower door was nothing but coated wood and didn't have a seal on the bottom, so the bathroom floor became sopping with each shower, the hairdryer worked dismally, the linens on the bed and the mattress under reminded me of something in a nursing home, and the housekeeping was attricious! Upon checking into the 1st room (on this trip), we moved immediately because there was hair all over the bathroom floor. The second room looked cleaner, but the lighting was horrid, and I think it ended up being just as "not clean" as the first room.

While the location is good, it's the only place in wonderful Amsterdam that feels touristy, which we hate. It seems to be a choice for business meetings because it can accommodate large groups. But for that, we would have stayed someplace else.

Amsterdam is a lovely city but, unfortunately, their 5 star hotels are few and often not even close to a 5 star that we are used to, but there certainly must be someplace better than this!
