“Sunday morning brunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

I didn't stay in this hotel, but I booked a brunch for a friend and me.
It was absolutely magnificant!
The buffet was overloaded with all types off food you like.
From a cold fish buffet, cheese, salad bar, hot buffet, desserts and water, orange juice or champagne the whole time during brunch.

We booked two nights at the Krasnapolsky for the end of our holiday in France, we arrived at 3pm and was told that our room was not ready and offered a free drink in the bar, we went to the bar and ordered 2 Jack Daniels and Cokes to be told that the voucher would only cover the coke part of the drink, furious we left and spoke to the man on reception explaining what had happened, he asked what we wanted to drink so I told him nothing, we were leaving and to make sure our room was nice for our return. We returned and he had given us a room at the front which was nice unil the shower the next morning......the layout caused me to slip, hit my head, side and knee and ended up on the floor in the bathroom, my partner burst in to help, i was black and blue for two weeks following our trip. Great location, nice breakfast, staff not good enough and shower in our room plain dangerous.

Room Tip: Insist on safe shower

A very centrally located hotel. Really worth the value of your money. When we rechecked In after a couple of days the manager gave us a discount for revisiting. All kinds of public transport are within the walking distance. The main night life and shopping areas are also close by. Rooms are neat and comfortable but some rooms do not have a nice view of the dam square. Overall a nice experience.

The best thing about the hotel is its location in Dam Square. Amsterdam can be a little confusing to navigate for a first time visitor and as pretty much every tram passed Dam Square on its way to Central Station this made life easier.
It looks pretty impressive from outside and this is carried on in the large foyer. Quite dated but faded grandeur I guess.
Surprised to be offered a (not complimentary) upgrade as we checked in. I declined initially as we had already booked a superior room. ON seeing it though - clean and modern but tiny - we immediately did an about turn and headed back to reception - a very long trek via a very old and cramped elevator.
The pleasant young lady on reception gave me a "told you so" smile as we upgraded our upgrade - I'd hate to see a standard room.
The upgrade was in a seperate wing of the hotel - the Amsterdam Wing. This was accessed by a secure entry system so we were only back in the main hotel to check out.
The new room was bigger but less up to date, with a very dated but large and clean bathroom.
Housekeeping was good and the hotel generally OK. One annoying thing - a pet hate - as usual the batteries in the remote for the TV were ancient and needed attention - that said, the TV was chronic - and wouldn't even show the news channels without payment. Not that you watch a lot of TV on a break like this but I like the news in the morning.
So all in all, not bad but surely at this kind of price and considering we had two upgrades, there should have been a bit of a wow factor?

Room Tip: Go for the best possible - one with a view over Dam Square otherwise you'll get a view of some a...

Chose this hotel for the location for a girls weekend and it was so much more.

Clean, comfortable, friendly and helpful staff, lovely cocktail lounge (palm bar) with two great barmen and great cocktails. Prices not as high as we expected either. Perhaps we had too many to care!

We didn't eat in the Hotel but I have a feeling the food would have lived up to the standard of everything else.

Great Hotel in a great city so I would recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room. All rooms being done but some already up to a good standard. Brighter...

We really love this hotel. Everytime we go to Amsterdam we return simply because it has the best location and it is brilliant value for money. I have a large family and every family member loves it and has never had a bad stay. My mum and dad must be on there 6th visit there now.

Its right on Dam Square which is well know as the heart of the city due to it being 2 minute from the Red Light District, lots of bars, restaurants, coffee shops ect. Check in is easy and the staff are friendly and know what they are doing.
The rooms can be a little bit shabby but they are being done up so if you book from now on try to get a newly renovated room. However, the rooms are nice anyway, big bathrooms, tv, mirror and a comfy bed to rest your weary feet after walking around the city all day.
If you havent been to Amsterdam before, a little tip is to stay somewhere like the Krasnapolsky because ist fantastic to have to option to go back to your room for half an hour (as the city is knackering!) and also for safety. This may sound quite lame but its good to know you are somewhere safe and dont have to worry about your valubles in some of the other 3 star hotels. We are returning in 3 weeks for another long weekend trip, this time with my brother and sisters and their partners. We are all staying in the Krasnapolsky because you just dont get the same value for money in any other hotel. We nearly stayed somewhere cheaper a further 5 minute walk from Dam Square but in the end it really isnt worth staying somewhere else to save the extra £30. Trust me.
ps. Dont miss the breakfast. The breakfast room is beautiful and it really sets you up for the day. It isnt cheap but its lovely to have a relaxing morning before the hustle and bustle of the city.
Enjoy

Stayed here before on business but this is the first time for leisure . The location is great for everything. The hotel is a little tired but our room was big and clean, breakfast is fantastic though make sure included in rate as they charge 29 euro per person. Overall a good hotel and staff very efficient
