The Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky while old school in interior design (lobby and such), is a good standard hotel with a fantastic location in Dam Square, just next to all tourist areas (adjacent to the Red Light District). I had a deluxe room facing the louder side street leading the Red Light District, but if i closed the window, the noise was not unmanageable. The staff is friendly and helpful and the deluxe room was clean, large and comfortable with a nice view from the window. The price was a little more than i would have liked (200 Euro per night), but it was during a convention period and i have stayed there before (over New Years) for closer to 150 Euro per night.

This is a beautiful hotel in the centre of Amsterdam. When you enter the reception you get the wow factor of a genuine 5 star hotel. Staff are most pleasant to deal with, with welcome greetings whenever you meet them throughout the hotel. The rooms are a good size and well appointed. The toiletries are generous. The bathrobes are the largest we have ever worn. Good sized safe in the room. Beds are large, comfortable and the linen is spotless. The breakfast in the Winter Garden is fantastic - helpful chefs on duty to cook to our requirements, large variety of choices. We would definitely return to this hotel on our next visit to Amsterdam.

I stayed here for four nights in August 2012. We booked this hotel on the basis of its location on Dam Square which is great for exploring Amsterdam. Central attractions are in a good walking distance, and for places further away, there are tram stops close by. The station is also about a ten minute walk away.

Our check-in is the longest check-in I've ever experienced in a hotel. We didn't have to wait long to see a receptionist, but the actual process seemed to take a long time! Having said that, there was a bottle of water and some glasses on the desk, which was made the waiting a bit better. I also went to the concierge desk a couple of times during my stay, sometimes we had to wait to get someone's attention, but in the end they were actually helpful with our questions.

Our room was at the back of the hotel in the newer extension. The room was clean, but perhaps a little basic. The bathroom was ok too, but it had frosted glass walls, which although you can't see through them, may not be to everyone's taste. The room was quiet as it overlooked the roof of the hotel's conference centre.

Breakfast wasn't included with our room, and it would have been very expensive to have our breakfast there. The breakfast room, the Winter Gardens, looked really nice as it was kept in the original style of the hotel. We did however have some evening drinks in the hotel at the bar in the Summer Garden's courtyard. They had a good selection at the bar and I found the prices to be cheaper than the bars on Dam Square. Also, the courtyard was pretty quiet with only a few groups there and plenty of seating. I also had some tea in the cafe which was nice and reasonably priced. They had a good selection of teas and it was served with a selection of chocolates and a macaroon which was a nice touch.

Overall, I'd recommend this hotel for its location, and although the rooms are ok, they're nothing that special.

Stayed here on 27/9 for one night with a friend. We asked for a twin room but ended up with a double as they have stopped doing twin rooms. That's what they told us anyway. We paid €218 for the room for the night which I thought was a bit excessive. The girl on reception offered us €3 discount on breakfast but we passed on that as I can't warrant €26 for some toast and cold meats.

The room was ok but starting to look a little tired, it was very clean but you could see signs of wear. The TV didn't work and it took them 7 hours to send someone to fix it. Apparently there were loose cables hanging out of the TV, not what you'd expect for what is supposed to be a 5 star hotel.

Bar prices in the hotel weren't bad. €4.50 for a beer which wasn't too bad.

Overall not a bad hotel but would stay somewhere else next time.

Certainly a fine four star hotel, but, not a five star. Hotel has all the amenities, however the rooms are not that special! Our room overlooked an inner courtyard of dumpsters.. Stayed here years ago when it was the Amstel Krasnapolsky and I think oit was better then!

The hotel is in the center of the city and is within walking distance to the main attractions. it is surrounded by many restaurants and five minutes from the central train station. its is a five star hotel and a beautiful one. Amsterdam has a lot to offer and we enjoyed our stay very much.

Room Tip: we had a luxury room on the 6th floor which was quiet and spacious.

We Booked 3 rooms for 3 couples, all 3 rooms were upgraded as the hotel was full. Our room was comfortable and large with tea/coffee making facilities, Complimentary slippers and dressing gowns. A large clean bathroom with shower/bath, The furniture in our room was showing quite a bit of damage e.g chips to the woodwork from years of use, However this did not effect our stay and we just needed somewhere comfortable and clean to stay for a couple of days. Our friends were also happy with their rooms, one staying on the top floor with views of Amsterdam with a bulcany and patio chairs, the other in what they thought seemed to be a newish part of the hotel above the conferance rooms.
We didn't pay for breakfast so we can't comment on the food at the hotel, or drinks. Staff were all very helpful and polite, and we were allowed to store our luggage before checkin and after check out at no extra cost, leaving us luggage free to do some shopping.
The hotel is situated directly in the centre of Amsterdam, overlooking the palace and war memorial and is in easy walking distance of the museum area, Anne Frank house, shopping and 5 minute walk from the red light district. May I reccomend a visit to the Heineken museum, its a must.
There are plenty of places to eat, average meal costing 12-15 euro's pp, we found the mexican restaraunt down the little road to the left of the hotel very nice and very good value, However, we found alcohol to be very expensive in Amsterdam, Paying anything from 12-17 euro's for two drinks!.
All 3 couples said we would definatley stay here again :)
