I went there with girlfriends for a 40th birthday. Overall we had a good experience, but we were assured it was a 5 star hotel
- not everewhere in that hotel; no way. We asked for a room that could accomodate 3 people , we all paid individually. They put us in a double room , and added a fold up (albeit comfortable) bed.
We then had to request toiletries and towelling for 3 people from housekreeping; but they kept on leaving enough only for 2. I know it is a knit picky thing- but in a 5 star hotel, I expect luxurious service.
The breakfast is great, and there is something for everyone. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful; except for the Concierge; who was just downright rude!!
However you cannot fault the location as we walked almost everywhere from there.

Great central location, but the hotel is getting a little tired and worn. Aware of this, I asked for a refurbished room; which was spacious with timber floors and new work tables etc. No view apart from an air conditioning duct and an internal riser though. (see pics).

The bathroom had been ‘spruced up’ but not refurbished, i.e. new tiling around the old bathroom suite. The over bath shower, once regulated to the correct temperature was great.

Drinks, food etc. are exceptionally expensive, so eat out; as the common areas were a little tired and threadbare with the odd bit of sticky tape on the carpet etc.

In summary, clean but in need of refurbishment, but if you can get a good rate and blag a refurbished room, it’s worth staying there for it’s location.

We arrived and the check in was slow and not so friendly. No assistance with bags we just got a key card and instructions to go to the Royal Wing. The room there was nice but nothing what you would expect in a so called Royal Wing.
We stayed from Saturday till Sunday so when we read that there were the NH Lazy Sundays with check out in the late afternoon we thought that that was also for us but no: when we came back from some shopping at Bijenkorf at 1 pm we could not enter our room so we had to walk all the way to the reception where they said we should have asked for a Lazy Sunday! how wonderful that is...
For parking our car we had to pay a lot of money so that was not nice either!

Have stayed in this hotel several times over the years. There are 2 parts of the hotel, main hotel rooms are more traditional some in need of refurb. The Royal wing is adjacent to main hotel through and alley - its enclosed and safe. I prefer the rooms in the Royal wing as they are modern with wooden floors, large bathrooms good toiletries.

Hotel is very central - right on Dam square, just behind Red Light District, lots of shops, restaurants, coffee shops, bar close by. 5 mins walk to central station
