“So Grand at the Grand”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012 via mobile

I have to say that Ive been to Amsterdam several times, almost every year in the last decade actually, but ive never stayed in a hotel that is so strategically well placed.

Starting with the lobby, i have to say that for a 5-star hotel, the ceiling is so low but the interiors were classy.

The room was very spacious, beds were so soft but the interiors were on the modern minimalistic style. To be honest, im on the fence on this one if i like it or not since ive heard that this where some celebs and royalties usually stay. The highlight of the room for me would be the closet and the bathroom!!! It has So much space that you can unpack everything, put your luggage and still have some space left and it leads to the very spacious, almost half of our room, The Bathroom!!! It was so big that its like a room in some 1 or 2 star hotels. I just realized now, though it was so big, it doesnt have a T.V in which i dont mind at all.

Now, here comes where the Grand word plays a Grand Role... Welcome to the Best Breakfast in the World. Though the breakfast in Shangrila HK was also splendid, this one was the ultimate!!! I havent experienced a bfast that offers champagne, impeccable service and myriad choices of palatable food. And id like to emphasize as well, what it lacks in the lobby, it certainly pays off in the Breakfast "Grand Ball" Room. Its a sight to be hold honestly speaking, one can certainly stay here for hours either admiring the room for its grandeur setup or road to gluttony if you cant control yourself.

My wife and I just had a wonderfull week-end in Amsterdam. We chose to pamper ourselves with a stay at the very centrally placed Krasnapolski. The hotel is both grand and great (as in large). Our first impression was a long and very slow queue at reception, and this repeated every time we tried to get in contact with either reception or concierge (or take the elevator) - a great irritant. Our room was a long walk from reception.
However the room was very nice, with a large and comfortable king-size bed. I spite of being in the heart of Amsterdam, our room was very quiet.
If it had not been for all the waiting the rating would have been 4.

Visited Amsterdam for our wedding anniversary and we could not of picked a better hotel for location and price. Right slap bang on Dam Square it was perfect. Quite an impressive building steeped in history due to its age unfortunately it was a little tatty but for what we paid we could not complain. We actually managed to get a great deal through latebooking.com and the hotel was on offer. This review may have been a little different if we had paid the full amount which was quite a lot more. The room was bright, spacious and comfortable and best of all quiet. Dam Square is noisy day and night. For what we got it was a good price but if we were to go back to Amsterdam I would not stay there unless I got a similar deal as the room, although nice was pretty basic and I would have definitely expected more for my money. A great example of the real cost of the hotel would be breakfast for two, which was €60. Our deal was room only and outside the hotel there were hundreds of places to eat (not something you need to worry about) and no where near that sort of price. We liked it very much and although it was grand not at anytime did we feel out of place. A recommendation when visiting Amsterdam has got to be Blue, which is a roof top cafe with stunning views...don't leave without a visit. Its reasonably priced for both food and drink and we ended up going back twice...on the same day!

Room Tip: Make sure you are not at the front! Worse case senario get the air con on and shut the windows. We w...

We are staying at the hotel right now and everything has been great so far. We arrived at 1300h, and although we knew the room would not be available until 1500h, the receptionist registered us and said the room would be available just before 1500h.

I was very worried about staying this hotel but the view from our room overlooking Dam square is amazing. The staff at the hotel have been very attentive.

Only thing missing is the bottle of water and box of chocs they promised us on arrival.

Room Tip: Over looking Dam square

Location great if you want to sleep with your bed in the street. No double glazing, room over filthy alley with non-stop noise day and night. Yes,tea & coffee packets with electric jug NO milk not interested in providing it,not even long life stuff. They make a big show of the main hotel but don't tell you your room is outside, over another scummy alley into an old building at the back. Breakfast another big show, champagne in ice buckets even. Reality very third rate, cold, leathery 'eggs benedict',coffee machine makes half a cup, transparent, brittle over cooked bacon. This hotel would be the worst we have ever stayed in and will be advising our travelling friends accordingly. The hair dryer didn't work,no iron and their wonderful 'press' didn't work either, 5 STARS.....in your dreams.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. We arrived around 10 30 am and although our room wasn't ready the receptionist was very pleasant, helpful and promised to have it ready before 1.All paperwork was completed then to save time later. We left our cases and headed off out.On returning the receptionist recognised us and bypassed the now long queue for check in and gave us our keys. We were in the Amsterdam wing on floor 3. Our room was large, spotlessly clean and well equipped. I have rarely had a more comfortable hotel bed and the choice of pillows helped too. Everything worked well from the large screen tv to the aircon. There were plenty of plug sockets All the staff we encountered were pleasant, cheerful and very helpful. We didn't eat there so can't comment on the food side of things. The hotel is well placed in the centre to enable walking to most places although we did use the trams too. Plenty of decent restaurants within 10 minutes walk. Overall a good experience and I would use NH hotels again if they are all this standard.
