“Good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2014 via mobile

I have just spent four days in amsterdam with my fiancé, the hotel was tidy but a little dated which in our minds gave a bit of charm, breakfast was ok with plenty of cold choices, pastries and bread options, although lacking in the hot food department, hard boiled & scrambled eggs and streaky bacon was the only hot items offered on all of the four breakfasts we had, The bed was soft, if too soft for my partner who has a back problem, great location in the centre of town.

The experience at the hotel was not what I expected. I have stayed at NH hotels in the past (NH at Santiago, Chile) and that was the reason I booked this hotel, but please, this will never be a four star hotel! No air conditioning, old, old carpet, apparent wiring, problems with credit card upon arrival (had to pay cash for the stay), 'soft' bed. Will complain at front desk and at the website. I am writing on my first night at the room and did not observe the points when I checked in, unfortunately.

It's in a great location but I found it a bit noisy and the room was not very clean and evrything seemed a bit too old. Overall it was a bit more than 200€ a night, so not the cheapest. I wouldn't repeat.

Room Tip: Try a high floor and a room on the river side, not on Doelen street.

After a friendly check-in, i came to my room , and was surprised to step back into the 60, the room was so simple and tiny, it felt like i was staying in monastery, a big old TV, with a non working remote contol, the bathroom was clean but so tiny , my shoulders didn't fit the space, and i had to walk sideways to get to the toilet, only one towel, to be honest i felt a little bit depressed in this room, it's been one of the worst i ever stayed in, also the general state of the hotel was a disapointment, damaged walls, falling wallpapers, this hotel is in no way a 4 stars, it felt more like a two stars, be aware, and the price wasn't even that great, 89 euros for one night, without breakfast, never again

Room Tip: Book another hotel, unless you like retro, with a run down look

Spent a weekend here. The staff very very good and the breakfast was a good start to the day, with excellent variety. Something for everybody.
The rooms were good and clean, but as others have stated it is a little tired. We were on the 5th floor and there is only one small lift, which is a little small and very slow. From here we walked to the station, Anne Franks House and the Museum quarter. None of the walks took more than 20mins. It was a little noisy at night, due to motorists who couldn't keep their hands off the horn and several instances off emergency vehicle alarms going for several minutes.

NH Doelen is a lovely hotel and I would describe it as faded elegance now it is very easy to visit most places from here and the hotel staff are very friendly and helpful on the whole the room was a bit dark needs better lighting but was clean and good bathroom plenty of hot water.Cannot comment on food because we thought the breakfast were quite expensive so had breakfast elsewhere.Would like to visit again when a soft refurbishment had been undertaken.Matress very soft and need replacing rooms at the back better over looking the canal but quite a bit of shouting late at night from two bars opposite 2'oclock this morning Friday night !!
