“Not bad.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013 via mobile

Hotel isn't bad.
Bit dated and could do with renovation. Wee nicks and issues here and there such as a slightly leaking bathroom tap, only one slow lift to serve 5 floors. Room furniture dated and fashioned but yet functional. Would get the same bed comfort from holiday inn express.
Plus points - staff like Rutger at front desk were fantastic. Can't remember all their names but very friendly and helpful. Book the canal tour with wine and cheese, absolute must and can be booked from lobby. They also pick you up direct from the quay at the rear of the hotel on river amstel. The hotel is very close to rembrandtplein which is the nearest place for eating out. The downside to this being that it can be noisy if you're looking a relaxing night as its so warm windows are opened meaning you can hear everything. You also hear the bin lorries collecting all the bottles at 8am. It's also 20minute walk to most attractions which is great considering its a nice city to walk around. Breakfast is nice but expensive considering you can head to mcdonalds 5minutes away and get a lovely croissant and coffee for like 3euro.
In short a decent hotel and I would stay again. Cant fault the staff or location. Its decent value but biggest drawback would be it is in dire need of upgrades to the rooms and facilities. Ps. I've seen a lot of people slating the wifi. I never had an issue with it and we were on 4th floor. Bit of modernisation and it would have been perfect.

As the other reviews state, the rooms are looking a bit tired. However the building is beautiful - tourists are frequently stopping to take photographs of the ornate facade. Location-wise it couldn't be better. It overlooks canals, bridges and the River Amstel, and is walking distance from all the major sites of Amsterdam, and Central Station. Don't miss De Jaren bar/cafe next door, it is a great place for breakfast.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front overlook the canals.

The Hotel is listed as a 4-star hotel - but it is not. It for sure was a 4-star hotel 20 years ago. But today it looks rather shabby, it is in urgent need of renovation. The rooms are quite spacy, but the windows are unsealed so it gets really cold in side the room and it is rather noisy as well. The matrazes are worn and it is not nice to sleep in those beds.

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel.

Great location and friendly reception staff.
10-15 mins walk from Central Station. Trams nearby.
Loved the view from our room overlooking the canal.
Can be noisy canal side when events being held, but that didn't bother us.
Love the beauty of the building, but some rooms could do with updating.
Breakfast was ok but not a huge choice. Free wifi is a good bonus.
Good location to stay for Amsterdam Pride events. No A/C in room.
Overall, a good place to stay with nice reception staff.

Room Tip: Book a room with a canal view but could be noisy during street events.

I've stayed 6 nights and really appreciated the place, the situation, the kindness of the staff. I had a single room, with everything I needed. No A/C but a ventilator did the job. Free WiFi. Breakfast was very good, even if a little bit pricy but you can eat enough for the rest of the day! and the dining room is on the canal, which is very relaxing. This hotel is near everything and is a good choice if you want some comfort, without paying too much.

Just had a nice break at this hotel. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and all spoke excellent English which was made life easier. Arrived mid evening and were offered a choice of beds and a smoking room which was great. Room and bathroom nice and clean. Definite bonus to have a large fan in the room as it was very hot and humid. Room window (overlooking canal) did open but too noisy to sleep with it open but room was very quiet once window closed. Minor problem with sink not draining properly was sorted out very promptly.
Breakfast buffet was expensive but excellent with lots of choice and good coffee and juice.
Location is brilliant, not far from Dam Square and very close to a tram stop.
Yes, the hotel is looking a little tired upstairs and in need of renovation but we only slept in the room. Public areas in good condition. Would recommend.

The hotel is well located in the center of Amsterdam. The rate and the location were the reason behind our decision to book it. The room was too old and the toilet was not so good.

I did not try the buffet , but there was a very nice coffee shop beside the hotel.

I would not recommend this hotel unless you don't have other options with other hotels in the same location.

Regards,
Ghazi
