“SWEET...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

This small hotel is really situated in a place that is very practical for the tourists. It is In front of a canals bridge where is a Tram station (if you want to use this useful transit for the city center). The Leidseplein square is behind of hotel 2 min walk where you can find a small market and a lot of cafes, bars, coffee shops and restaurants! The Argentines Cuisine “smells” everywhere… The Museum Area is to the same direction 15 min walk. At the other side, eastern of hotel there is the flower market (5 min. walk) and walking straight you meet the Kalverstraat (maybe the biggest shopping street) going left you reach the central Dam Square (almost 20 min walk from hotel). About the hotels “running”, the place is clear, the staff is kind and our Room 503 (balcony-canal view) was big and cozy! If you leave the windows open you’ll understand that you are in noisy area. Trams and people passing are endless… until the first morning hours (The nights are crazy in Amsterdam). Breakfast was OK, more than basic, and it’s serviced at the place of Restaurant Thijs.(nice place). Note that sleepers and bathrobes are not at the hotel’s amenities. The conclusion is that Dikker Hotel is a Decent place to stay and enjoy it!

Dikker & Thijs Hotel is located right in the centre of Amsterdam, around the famous Leidseplein/Leidse Square. A very lively area with all the major shopping streets (9 streets, Leidsestreet, Kalverstreet, PC Hooftstreet) in walking distance. Also close by is the Museum quarter. So really, location wise very interesting.

We had a room on the inside of the building, meaning there is no view other then to inside place of the hotel. The advantage is there is really no noise from the streets. So nice and quiet.
The tram is running through the street in front of the hotel but we heard nothing of this. With this tram you can travel very quickly any where in Amsterdam.

The standard of the room is good. Very good bed, desk with minbar, wardrobe with safe and bathroom with bath and shower. It was a really cold time of the year (jan 2013) but the room was nice and warm. Of course you can organise this yourself in the room.
Nice and cosy, not to big but not really small as well.

Breakfast was good and reasonably priced compared to other hotels for the same standard.
Parking was a little problem since one of the canals was blocked to drive to a nearby parking garage (300m). Now, this should be no problem anymore I suspect.

Around the Square are a lot of restaurants, pubs, bars and nightlife. But in the room you hear nothing of this, but again it was a cold time of the year maybe that helped keeping people of the streets as well ;-)

You can also use the Hotel's restaurant, we didn't try but it looked good regarding the menu we saw, but around the Leidse Square are many good restaurants in walking distance.

The canals are a fantastic view of old Amsterdam (don't forget to take a canal boat ride). The atmosphere is so genuine, so relaxed with all kinds of people mixing with each other. Walking through this area gives you energy and is very pleasant.

The staff of the hotel were friendly and helpful, with a staffed reception 24h. Security is good, especially at night. You have to show your card to get in of course.

All in all a great place to stay if you visit Amsterdam for shopping, for musea (Van Gogh, Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum), for fun food and drink. Of course the cultural side is enormous at this central location.

Room Tip: If you want quietness ask for room on the inside of the hotel. No good view, but no noise from stree...

We went here in June 2012 for a weekend break. We found the location to be really convenient with a tram stop just outside and shops/bars just round the corner. Considering the central location and close proximity to passing trams, we found it to be reasonably quiet. The room was surprisingly large and overlooked the canal. Our only gripe was that we booked the hotel online but were not required to pay until the date of departure - this meant an increase in what had originally been quoted. We didn't eat at the hotel so can't rate this.

Room Tip: Request a room away from the main road where there are passing trams.

Hotel was well sited, close to the CBD but not in it, close to shopping, many restaurants, tram was steps away, on a picturesque canal, and within walking distance to major museums and entertainment. All the essentials were literally just steps away. The rooms were large (for Europe) and well equipped. The bathrooms were exceedingly nice. The hotel staff was friendly, helpful, and professional, meeting every request with skill and enthusiasm. I really loved the place and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the city center, and would go back myself if I ever need to be in Amsterdam. Really great experience!

Not really a dislike, just a standard hinderence for in city european hotels: the elevator was tiny, so getting to higher floors with luggage can be a challenge. Also the hot water tends to evaporate by 10am, but as soon as demand slackens, after checkout, it restored promptly.

Room Tip: try and get a room on the top floor away from the main street. Canal side or backside are much quie...

This is a great hotel to stay at. The rooms are clean and appealing to look at, the staff is friendly and the location is terrific. The only downside is that it can be noisy being next to the tram and the Internet is SLOW.......... But it's definitely worth the money and the location is perfect for good food and museums.
