“2nd Time at this hotel great location but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2014

This is my second stay at this hotel, the first time left a great impression when taking into account the location (5 minutes max from Dam square) and the canal view we had, as a result I decided to return. Whilst I probably would consider staying here again it would be on the basis of a different room being provided in my most recent stay. I was given room 14 which is by reception and as a result you can here every person who enters the hotel, all night, and I was getting in late or early depending on how you look at it.

The staff are all very helpful and seem to speak a wide range of languages, the rooms are clean although a little dated you get what you pay for and value for money wise they are good enough. The location is just great, an easy walk to Dam square and a range of local attractions bars restaurants.

Would I recommend going here? that depends on the room you get, the first time we stayed in one of the first floor canal view rooms and it was beautiful to wake up to each morning with good sound proofing on this basis I would highly recommend. The second time looked out over a little courtyard (not a terrible view but far from the canal view) and had terrible soundproofing were I not getting so late it would have proved a serious issue.

Please note I paid the same price for both of these rooms.

My advise do stay here Yes, but not in room 14! Happy travels!

Room Tip: Not 14!! Canal view rooms are great!!

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for one night and for the money we paid, we were happy with our stay. The location is great. Very close to Dam square, Anne Frank's house, the gay district, the red light district and all the shops. The room was basic but clean. The bathroom was limited. To shower, we has to sit in the bath and hold the shower head over us, avoiding the low angled ceiling, but it was ok. Even though the room was 'non smoking', it was clear by the smell that smoking had taken place in the room. You have to pay a €50 deposit on check in too. Make sure you have the cash!! Otherwise it takes one month to go back on your card! Overall, not bad for the price. Don't expect luxury but for the price it's very good and comfortable.

I travel to Amsterdam a lot of times a year and for a hotel in the centre for the price I don't thin you could get better

Friendly staff, clean room and just a 10-15 mins walk to the city centre, what more could you want! The room was a fair size and the bathroom was a good size, clean and fresh and the bed was very comfortable. It was tastefully decorated for a hotel in the centre.

I usually stop further out due to the standard of the hotel. But for right in the centre this is a fantastic hotel and would recommend this to anyone who wants to stop in the centre for a reasonable price and doesn't want to use the local transport.

Lovely clean comfortable room overlooking canal. Very friendly staff and lovely breakfast with fairly good choice.
The hotel is situated in the heart of the city, most things within easy walking distance.
Some noise at night - but not too bad, only to be expected.
Would definitely recommend this hotel, we had a really good stay here - 3 nights.

The hotel was fine for what we wanted (lads weekend away) our room 427 was great! Huge! But the others in our groups room was tiny, no room between their twin beds. Didn't bother with breakfast as it was 12 euros 50, ate locally (try jenifers) for half that price.
Taxi from central station was 12 euros. Get a 24hr tram ticket for €7.50.
Staff were friendly apart from 1 male member (didn't get his name)
I enjoyed our stay, but would prefer closer to the city center next time.

This was the first time we go 3 stars (we always go 2 stars), but it was definitely a failure, I wonder why do they have 3 stars! If you have troubles with sleeping, definetely to be avoided. Doors are old, you will hear everything from your nearby. Do not go from October to March if you do not want to be frozen. I explain: sleeping with heating system on: forget about, it is incredibly loud!! No heating system in the bathroom. Very thin glass window in the room, facing a horrible inner yard. We paid 20 Eu extra for a larger double bed that they did not provide!! 3 minor positive points: location, tidyness and kind people.

When we booked this hotel we thought the price was to go to be true, but we were very pleasantly surprised. When we arrived before our room was available we were invited to leave our cases in the secure luggage room, the staff were so helpful in giving directions and advice on where to go to eat etc.. The location was central and perfect, no more than a five minute walk to Dam Square and maybe a 20 minute walk to the train station. Although basic the three-bed room I stayed in was spacious, clean and comfortable. Will be staying again next year and I would recommend to anyone.
