“An old world gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2011

What a delightful stay in an otherwise grubby city (it doesnt seem to get any better as the years go by)Our first time to stay at this delightful boutique hotel. Everything was perfect, from the profesional and friendly English speaking staff, to the myriad of fresh orchids everywhere, the exotic fish tank, and the relaxing lounge and library/meeting room.
Our room though small by our usual US chain standards it made up for it in comfort and elegance. Breakfast was more than adequate, and lots of coffee of all sorts available free day and night. We loved our stay here - took easy day trips by train to den Haag and Delft--delightfut!!!!
Outstanding fish restaurant around the corner - Lucius- ask the staff to make a reservation. We ate there 3 nights!

I was given a room overlooking the canal which was tastefully decorated. The writing desk located near the window made working in the hotel room a bit more relaxing. The free coffee served in the lobby was excellent. Staff were also very helpful and friendly. I liked that they kept my bag for as long as I needed. It's a 5-7 minute walk from the tram stop so it could be harsh in very cold weather. However, there are many restaurants and shops in and around the area. Breakfast has a good selection and reasonable for an additional 10 euros. Downside is that WIFI isn't free. It's 5 euros for 1 hour and 10 euros for 24 hours. Overall a good experience.

What a beautiful hotel. We had the nicest time here. Lovely free coffee and hot chocolate in lobby. The bedrooms for all the family were excellent. The decor in each one was outstanding. Close to shops and overlooking canal. Elderly mother in law really enjoyed the lobby to sit and read and watch the passing parade! Fish tank is very restful in reception area. Will go back and highly recommend it.

if you want to stay on one of the canals, and want to be in walking distance to the center of everything, then this is the place. Ask for a room on the canal. We paid 20 euros more per night, but well worth it. Hotel service and quality is well within the 4 start rating. The salt water fish tank is stunning - for no reason other than just admiring the beautiful tropical fish. I like the free coffee, hot chocolate, expresso, machiato machine in the lobby. Very handy after coming in from the damp cold. I love Amsterdam and really feel like I am in my own canal house here.

We have been to Amsterdam a number of times, but this was our first time in the Estherea. It was truly terrific. The location is outstanding, just by the canal, close to shopping and restaurants. The staff were very friendly and efficient at booking taxis restaurants etc and the kids loved the free hot chocolate! Would not now stay anywhere else.
