I picked this hotel for the first two nights of our trip to Europe with our toddler. I knew it was a little out of the way and wanted to make sure we were in a quiet location to get our sleep. I was pleasently suprised when we got there. It was very elegant and clean and in a beautiful location. However, we were woken each night by noise from above. The building is very old (hence the charm), but the walls are paper thin. The first night, I woke up every 30 minutes due to noise. The second night, we all woke at 12:30. The man in the room above us was having a "meeting". We called the front desk several times since none of us could sleep. Finally, my husband took my (now crying) daugher to the lobby and the front desk clerk handed him the keys to the suite on the top floor. We moved, but by this point the whole night and the next day were shot.
If you can stay on the TOP floor, I highly recommend this hotel. Otherwise, you better be a good sleeper.
I regret to say that I had read other complaints about noise in this hotel before making my reservation.

Great hotel and very comfortable surroundings. Little to add to earlier reviews and highly recommended.
The only negative observation was that it is not wheelchair friendly - but this is amsterdam so goes with the territory.

We had elevated expectations about the Estherea, given the positive reviews, and we are happy to report that this small hotel is indeed a great find. Our room was very comfortable, recently renovated and decorated with superb taste and a sense of style. The beds were deep and comfy; the chairs and other furniture luxurious, in an old world way. It had a large bath with a double sink, which I did not expect.

The public areas on the ground floor are especially inviting, for a coffee and a sweet treat, or a drink in the evening. These rooms have fabulous wood paneling, particularly in the stunning library. Everything was very well maintained and in perfect working order.

The unexpected bonus about the Estherea is that it is in a great location, on the innermost canal known as Singel. The back of the hotel looks over Spuistraat, which has an abundance of the city's best restaurants, cafes and bookstores. We had all of our dinners (four nights) at restaurants that were within a block of the hotel - Haseje Claes, Kantjil and Tigre, and the Luden. All very different and all highly recommended. The Greek deli next door and the bakery down the alley on Spuistraat are also outstanding. You can tell we did our fair share of eating while in Amsterdam.

From the Estherea, we could walk 15 minutes and be at the Rijksmuseum, the van Gogh, or the Concertgebouw. Or, one can take the street trolley, which is also just a block from the hotel. And, for the sheer pleasure of it, just wandering around the neighborhood, seeing the magnificent buildings on those delightful canals, peeking into stores and brasseries, bakeries and boutiques, taking in what makes Amsterdam so special, is the best reason to stay at the Estherea.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel on two separate ocassions within a three week period in July and loved it. We rely on Trip Advisor reviews for our choices and we were not let down. This is a top class hotel with nice rates. The staff was friendly, professional and very accomodating. We stayed in room 110 during our first stay and the bed was so comfortable and the room so dark that we overslept until 2:00 in the afternoon! Room 110 was small but very clean as well as the bathroom. On our return we stayed in room 116, facing the canal (photos attached). This room was spacious and very clean. The hotel is in walking distance of many entertainment areas and only 5-6 minutes from Central Station via cab. A cab ride from the train station will cost you 10-15 Euros. If you walk away from the station to the sidestreets, you can get a cab for $10 Euros, othwerwise the drivers parked at the station charge $15 Euros. Make sure you know your credit card pin number to buy train tickets from machines in the station. Try some herring while you are in Amsterdam, as it was awesome.

We spent three nights at Hotel Estherea and could not have been more pleased with their service, location, and atmosphere. The staff from the front desk to the maids is very professional. We walked to everything (Dam Square, Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Red Light District, Rembrandt Square, and various shopping areas). You could have a breakfast buffet in the hotel for 14 euros or go to the corner cafe and enjoy breakfast for 7 euros. The lobby of the hotel has complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate, assorted candies and mints in addition to afternoon pastries and fruit. Trams and restaurants are within a block or two. They even lent us umbrellas and gave us complimentary plastic ponchos when it rained.
