We stayed in the Hotel Estherea for 2 nights in mid July. We had a family room on the fifth floor and luckily had airconditioning due to the extremely unusual good weather Holland is having at the moment. All the staff were very helpful and friendly and they were really good with the kids. Very close to all the main sights of the city and we walked most places with a buggy and five year old who didn't complain (much!) The hotel organised a babysitter for one night for us. She was very good and the cost was cheaper than our babysitter at home. We would definitely recommend this hotel for young families and would stay there again.

Just returned from a 60th birthday celebration in Amsterdam. The hotel is every bit as good as its description. The rooms were clean and spacious. Although not air-conditioned each room had a fan. The staff were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. I do not recall ever giving an 'excellent' rating before but the Estherea merited it.

WE chose the Estherea based on earlier TripAdvisor reviews and were not disappointed. My wife & I stayed for 5 nights in mid-July after completeing a Baltic cruise. It was fairly warm in Amsterdam and our second floor front canal view room (#210) had no A/C but the nights cooled off quickly and the provided fan helped considerably. We slept with open windows and although it could get noisy with canal boats and mopeds, it get quite quiet after 10 pm (11 on Friday night) so sleep wasn't a problem.

It is a lovely, mostly residential/small offce area with loads of cafes and restaurants on Spuistrasse, the street behind the hotel as well as in the nearby Dam Square and Leidesplein areas. We especially liked the prix fixe menu at Luden as well as the more bistro-like Cafe Luxembourg.

The hotel's breakfast was fine, better than many European hotels and 'only' eur14 (where many charge eur20 or more).

I would definitely recommend this hotel based on its location and helpful, friendly staff.

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and strongly recommend it. We had a room overlooking the canel. Our AC worked well but we mostly kept the windows open. The room was clean and the staff was helpful. Best of all was the location. It was terrific- close to everything. Also, the hotel recommended a place to eat near by and it was great. Breakfast at the hotel was overpriced but worth the money on the last morning when we were rushed. They gave us breakfast on the house when we arrived the first day which was very pleasant after an overnight flight.

We stayed at this charming hotel July 4th thru the 6th on our way back from a cruise in the Baltic. We had booked a room on the canal which was on the second floor. It was very beautifully decorated with lovely drapes, and wonderful molding on the ceiling. The bathroom was spacious and had a wonderful deep tub with shower. The only problem was that Amsterdamn was experiencing a heat wave with temperatures in the 90's. This of course was not the hotel's fault and we were lucky to be quick enough to put our request in to move to the fifth floor which did have air conditioning. There is also an elevator which is not always the case in these small hotels. The staff especially the bellman/porter was wonderful and gave us great recommendations for places to eat. We would stay there again but would book a room on the fifth floor not on the canal side as it can be quite noisy. The hotel has a nice little bar and breakfast room. We walked down the street (Singel) and had breakfast at a little cafe which only charged 7 euros for ham and eggs on a roll with tomatoes and fruit on the side, wonderful coffee also. There is also a great greek deli next door with fantastic food and very reasonable. This hotel is in the canal ring and you can walk to the central station from there.
