My boyfriend and I have just returned from a two night stay at the Estheria. It is in a superb location with lovely communal rooms downstairs where you can relax and enjoy the free coffee, tea and fruit. Our room was nice inside the only drawback was the lack of natural light, the window looked out on to an internal 'shaft' along with other rooms so you couldn't really open the curtains; they were also doing work on an adjacent room which was loud at 8.20 am. This said everything else was fine and the breakfast was great. Ours was included in the price (through Expedia- although the city tax is extra on your bill at the end of your stay.. not much though).. There's a lovely little beer place practically on the door step (turn left at hotel exit then take first left down the side road) called Gollem. Try a Jenever (Dutch gin) with a beer chaser.. Dante on Spuistraat a bit further up is also a good watering hole. We had a lovely Indonesian meal near by at Kantjil & De Tijger on Spuistraat 291/293- just order the 'rice table' and see what you get.. wonderful. Also De Jaren (Nieuwe Doelenstraat 20-22) over the Amstel is great for a good view and a bite of lunch. All in all I would recommend this hotel, particularly for the fab location.

Just back from a stay in amsterdam which is a lovely city to visit. It was as a present for my husband so I wanted to get a nice hotel. This one is lovely but definitely not a four star hotel by any means. After reading reviews on this site we didn't go for breakfast..there are lovely places around to get something to eat for far less than 14 euro which is what the hotel charges. We were in room 407 which is too the back but is so noisy..not sure if it was just the people in the other rooms or just the hotel in general. The free tea and coffee and fruit was lovely especially considering it was so cold. The reception staff were really friendly and the location is lovely. I had asked by email for directions to the hotel and was told to either get a taxi from the airport or the connexion which connects the airport to the hotels. I wouldn't go for either of these ways...a one way ticket on the train is 3.60 each and then it is about a 15 minute stroll to the hotel. A taxi would cost 42 euro.....There are some really dodgy looking hotels in amsterdam so you have to be careful but this was 300 for the two of us for two nights with no breakfast so I think it was a bit steep.

There are definitely some great things about the hotel - we were very grateful to be given a room immediately after arriving at the hotel several hours before scheduled check-in. The staff were efficient and polite, the free fruit and hot drinks most welcome and the location is great. However - as previous reviewers have mentioned - we often found the room to be cold, this wasn't helped by the fact that the cleaners left the window open each day after cleaning (even though it was snowing outside!)and one of the radiators wasn't working. Our room was located next to the lift and this combined with the thin walls meant that we were disturbed by noise from lift mechanism each time the lift was used. We didn't complain as our break was only for a few nights and we didn't spend much time in our room but given the choice I wouldn't stay in that particular room again!

What is not to like? My wife and I have been to Amsterdam twice--each time staryed at this wonderful small hotel. We already have reservations for june 13/14 this year. The location is superior. We are not the DAM square crowd---we like the relaxed atmosphere---there is enough fun a good restaurants for us--two fine pubs near by. We found the management and employees friendly and helpful at all times. We travel in Europe quite often and look for hotels like Estheria---small family run fine hotels---we have developed our own list and frrequent them when possible. Estheria is great.

we have just returned from a 4 night stay. Our room although a bit on the small side, had a canal view which made up for the room size. The bed has to be one of the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever slept in, with crisp clean white sheets. The hotel was very clean, it has been polished to perfection. The free coffee, tea etc was a real bonus. The hotel is in the best location for exploring Amsterdam. We have been to Amsterdam on numerous occasions and have stayed in many different classes and types of hotels, always trying to find one that is located centrally, that has a good ambiance, that is clean, well looked after with attentive staff. We have found it with the Estherea - we will not stay anywhere else.
ps try the all you can eat ribs at the sing singel pub, turn right when you leave the hotel and keep walking you will find the pub on the right approx 200 yds.
