My boyfriend and I have just returned from a two night stay at the Estheria. It is in a superb location with lovely communal rooms downstairs where you can relax and enjoy the free coffee, tea and fruit. Our room was nice inside the only drawback was the lack of natural light, the window looked out on to an internal 'shaft' along with other rooms so you couldn't really open the curtains; they were also doing work on an adjacent room which was loud at 8.20 am. This said everything else was fine and the breakfast was great. Ours was included in the price (through Expedia- although the city tax is extra on your bill at the end of your stay.. not much though).. There's a lovely little beer place practically on the door step (turn left at hotel exit then take first left down the side road) called Gollem. Try a Jenever (Dutch gin) with a beer chaser.. Dante on Spuistraat a bit further up is also a good watering hole. We had a lovely Indonesian meal near by at Kantjil & De Tijger on Spuistraat 291/293- just order the 'rice table' and see what you get.. wonderful. Also De Jaren (Nieuwe Doelenstraat 20-22) over the Amstel is great for a good view and a bite of lunch. All in all I would recommend this hotel, particularly for the fab location.
