“Wonderful discovery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2009

Travelled to Amsterdam for business and was extremely pleased with this jewel of a hotel. Well tended, comfortable, stylish rooms. Professional, helpful, polite staff. Simply the BEST location for the canal neighborhoods, and close to all the hubub of the old town. Walking distance to Reiksmuseum and all markets. Fantastic bakeries close by. Fantastic coffee shops close by(Cofee and Tee). Cafe Singel was SUPERB for lunch. FoodWare offered a wonderful lunch buffett(but no atmosphere to speak of, just good quality food...). Beulings restaurant was an incredible surprise discovery, 5 star multi course chef's choice, small cozy... all a short walk from the hotel. We will look forward to our return.

The staff are extremely friendly and accomodating at this hotel. Our flight had been changed without notice and we arrived at the hotel 3 hours earlier than expected. We managed to check into our room prior to mid-day with no fuss, this was a first for us! The hotel is beautiful and very relaxed and is perfectly situated for exploring Amsterdam. We didn't use public transport at all, we walked everywhere. The breakfast is rather on the expensive side of 16 euros each but then again, you get what you pay for. I would recommend this hotel without hesitation and will be returning on our next visit to Amsterdam.

We have been to Amsterdam before and stayed in very basic hotels so decided to go for something a bit more upmarket this time. We really liked the hotel and were lucky enough to be given one of the bigger rooms. It was clean and in really good order. We also really liked the location - its not to far to the station and a short walk to dam square. The roads around the hotel have a really good selection of places to eat and drink.
We got a really good rate on the room - if we had paid more we might have been a bit disapointed and we have rated it highly for its value for money.
Recommended.

We stayed for three nights, and found this to be a clean, plush and comfortable hotel. We stayed in Room 512 which was on the top floor (in the roof), the room was just right for two people, not huge, but well arranged so we didn't feel 'squeezed' as you can feel so often in some places. It had a very decent bathroom with shower/bath and hairdyer, plus all the usual things and lotions (except soap, which came in a squeezy bottle on the wall). There is wifi, but you have to pay (10 euros for 24 hrs).

We didn't have breakfast in the hotel (so can't comment), but it was extremely good to know that in the afternoon after walking around (freezing) Amsterdam, there was free coffee/hot choc/tea to warm you up whilst nibbling on the free pastries/biscuits whilst slumped in a comfy sofa reading the newspapers provided. There were no coffee making facilites in the room, and the minibar only contains water - but again, it is free.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and huge fish tank in reception was just awesome, my husband could barely tear himself away from it.

We booked this hotel last minute and got a great rate. It was in a nice, central location along a canal. The rooms are very nice--spacious for Europe, with large bathrooms. The staff was very helpful, and there is free hot chocolate in the lobby at all times. It was nice to bring a cup with as we headed out in the mornings. We really liked the decor and the unusual floor layouts (winding hallways). Not to mention one of the best bars in the city is literally right around the corner. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

This is a fabulous hotel, with brilliant staff and a great location.

I booked three nights in the hotel for my boyfriend'sbirthday, and having emailed beforehand to let them know, we arrived to a find a gorgeous bouquet of flowers, a special birthday gift and a beautiful room complete with four-poster bed!

The staff were really helpful, the location was perfect and the complimentary cakes and drinks very much appreciated.

Highly recommended

I agree with one of the other reviewers - take a cab from the station, it's too far to walk unlsess it's springtime and not raining. The location of the Eshterea is ideal. On a pretty canal very close to Dam Square, a 15 minute walk to the Ann Frank House, and a couple of blocks from the trams to the art galleries. The hotel is cosy and warm, with superbly decorated public areas and a huge and riveting tropical fish tank. Our room was small but very well decorated although it had no view at all. Well, not exactly true, as they had erected a banner a metre or two from our window showing pictures of trees so that you couldn't see an adjacent building site, which was a novel if expensive gesture. There were no drawers which would have been useful, and the room was so small only one person at a time could get around the bottom of the bed. But hey - all you need on a weekend trip is a comfy warm and clean room and this was ideal. (the hotel is very very clean!). They don't serve evening meals at all, but the breakfasts were stunning, and so was the beautiful dining room. All of the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. There is a stunning little bar just around the corner called the Gollem - a great place to chill and sample the huge range of beers on offer. A perfect place to stay in Amsterdam!
