“Great location & lovely staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 days ago NEW

This is the 3rd time I have stayed at the Hotel Estherea for the same business trip every year. It's a great location on the Singel Canal - walking distance to Dam square, all the nightlife and great restaurants that Central Amsterdam has to offer. Despite being so central, it's a nice and peaceful place to rest and you are not in amongst all the hustle and bustle of all the pubs and clubs.
Transport wise, you are 2 minutes away from multiple trams stops that will take you across town to wherever you want to go.

Staff are very friendly, helpful and always attentive. Breakfast is an absolute dream - catering for all and sundry, no matter what you dietary requirements are!

Only downside this time was the squeaky corridor on the 4th floor above my room which interrupted me all throughout the night. But this is being a little picky.

Definitely recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Amsterdam, be it on business or on holiday.

We were given an upgrade to a suite- decor was like a scene from The Phantom of the Opera!

Surprising was the Landry service was the cheapest we have ever encountered.
Mix of business and holiday interfaced well in this hotel.
Friendly and courteous staff - a truly family run hotel.
Best breakfast anywhere.
Coffee and tea on tap all day in cosy lounge.
This hotel was a highlight of our holiday.

Arriving canalside on Singel (very central Amsterdam) the hotel appears plain, sedate and calm. Once inside a riot of colour, including a massive tropical fish tank, extraordinary chandeliers and an eclectic mix of old and new, greets the traveller. Reception was friendly and informative and we were given a free upgrade to a suite (No. 11) despite the late hour of our check-in (2215). The suite was large and beautifully furnished (you'd have to like an exotic pink and raspberry colour scheme though) with L'Occitane toiletries and a double shower. The king-size bed was very comfortable with great linens. A small drawback was no window in our bedroom though the door thru to living area had glass with blinds. The living area had windows onto a pretty interior fishpond and garden, with natural light coming thru atrium windows above (with sliding blinds). There was a Nespresso machine in room with pretty Delft china. Breakfast was expensive at Euros18 pp but presented a great choice of typically Dutch breads/cheese/meats and cooked eggs, bacon and sausge plus excellent fruits, yoghurts, cereals etc. Skim milk available on request and a wonderful breakfast salad! The public rooms are awesome, with interesting books and magazines, fresh flowers in enormous vases, lots of nooks and crannies for meetings, free coffee/tea/chocolate and biscuits/sweets. It would be a wonderful choice for a honeymoon or anniversary or a fashion shoot. It is expensive but worth it, especially for the front of house staff who coped admirably with several dramas at one moment when we were checking out. The area is very picturesque and full of cafes, bars and shops.

Room Tip: Look on the website to choose, it appears all the rooms are very different

We booked this hotel especially to give a luxury start to a holiday and to help recover from jet lag. All achieved wonderfully. Gentle and helpful staff, luxurious lobby areas, bar and breakfast room and all in easy reach of all of central Amsterdam. What a find!

Previous reviews are for the most part glowing, as would mine be except for a few things.....to begin with, when we arrived, the dark haired older gentleman (compared to the younger staff) who assisted us in checking in I found to be short on smiles and rather condescending .... Not a good first impression. His attitude didn't change much towards us during our four night stay. The rest of the staff were wonderful. Then, there was our room. Top floor, 507, canal view .. Expensive. .. . and warm, facing west into the wonderful warm sunny days we were lucky enough to have during our stay. When we asked about turning a/c up, we were told it only went so high and that was it. And if we opened windows, the a/c would shut itself off automatically. So our only choice was to open windows after dark (no screens, of course) to cool room a bit for sleeping. Which led to many, many mosquito bites over the next few days. And final negative, you are provided only one key to your room. A very heavy fancy brass trimmed tassel of a key. In a four day stay, on one occasion, we left key in room. My husband thought I had it, I assumed he had it. When we approached desk, there was Mr. Condescension, who actually rolled his eyes when we explained we needed a key to get into our room. A very nice young man was quickly dispatched to accompany us to our room to unlock the door.

Well, there you have it. Wonderful hotel and rave reviews from other Trip Advisor contributors are all true. Unfortunately for me, the incidents I have listed here are what I will remember first when thinking about this hotel.

Very comfortable. Wonderful location.Good nearby restaurants recommended by staff.Obscure room pricing policy with rooms turning out to be more expensive than originally quoted so suggest ensure you confirm prices on check in.

This hotel will make you fall in love with Amsterdam.
It is our home away from home - we can't get enough of Estherea!!!
Rooms are comfortable and spacious; canal view rooms give you an opportunity to witness and experience the floating 'good life' of Amsterdam; the staff are amazing, knowledgable, and friendly; breakfasts are awesome - something for everyone; the lobby, bar, and library make it tempting to never leave the hotel; and it's central location is the best for easy access to fabulous restaurants, night life, museums, shopping, and parks - all without using transit, which is close and easy to use if you choose!

Room Tip: Canal views are great, but if not within your budget then choose a room overlooking pretty Spuistras...
