“Beautiful hotel, great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2014

Hotel Estherea was everything it promised to be.

The location was simply great. Nothing was too far away, we could walk everywhere. For places like Vondelpark you could rent a bike and have a great ride all the way. The area of the hotel itself was very charming - there was a tiny lane connecting the hotel road (Singel) to Spuistraat, which lead to a great deal of activity, restaurants and shops. Close to the hotel, on the corner of the tiny lane, was a breakfast place. On the other side we found a reasonable taxi service, which took us to the airport at a cheaper rate on the way out.

The hotel was beautiful and elegant inside, with large chandeliers and boutique wall paper all around. And even though our room was a bit small, and we didn't get the canal view room that we had booked, it was still quite nice. The size of the bathroom was quite decent. It had two sinks, and a separate shower and bath tub and high quality toiletries were provided. Tea and coffee were available at all times in the area beyond the lobby, complete with to-go cups! Great if you want to grab a cup of tea and sit outside on the benches, looking at the canal and watching people go by. The breakfast buffet was also quite decent and comfortable.

I would highly recommend this hotel to people who want to be able to walk everywhere and yet enjoy some beauty and comfort. The only tiny regret I have is that we did not get a canal view room, even though that was the one we had booked. Next time, perhaps.

We stayed a week this month,July, and it was a total delight. Not only were the service and rooms excellent the small details make this hotel stand out from the rest. The IPad to use whilst there, the wifi, the fresh bottles of water daily, the 24/7 coffee/ tea self service area all with the best location in Amsterdam. Also the canal was quiet which for high season was amazing. Will definitely be back! Vi

My nephew and I stayed here for 3 nights. While a little pricey and rather noisy as we were on the backside and not the canalside (especially the night the Netherlands won the World Cup quarterfinals and people were partying and parading on the street outside until early in the morning), the hotel is lovely. Our room was decent size and we loved the jacuzzi tub (rare in my European experiences), however we did have to separate the beds (the bellman helped), which I had asked in advance to have separate. The staff were very kind and helpful when asked. The breakfast buffet was not worth the price and there are plenty of cafes and bakeries just around the neighborhood.
The location is very nice...right on a canal and near a good tram line.

Room Tip: canal side rooms are likely quieter

We stayed 6 nights here. It was a very good choice for my mother, as the upper floors are accessible by elevator and the location meant there were lots of restaurants nearby. The staff is exceptional, from front desk to housekeepers. Rooms and public spaces are beautiful and comfortable.

Hotel Estherea is one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed. For someone like me who traveling a lot this is “loaded” statement, but it is true. There is nothing even remotely negative we can say about this hotel. It sounds unbelievable, isn’t it, but I’d really suggest: if in Amsterdam – stay in this “gem”. Even if this is a bit over your budget – just indulge yourself with its classical luxury. You won’t regret.
Perfect location – hotel situated on canal side
Our room was overlooking canal and it was so beautiful to open the window.
The room, the lobby, the library (yes, they have a library!) and other common areas are decorated absolutely splendidly - gorgeous crystal chandeliers, elegant upholstery, beautiful accessories.
There is area in the lobby were guests could get free refreshing drinks, tea, coffee, cookies, candies – 24/7.
Room is relatively small, but so cozy and elegant! Very clean everywhere.
Hotel provides toiletries from famous and quite expensive French brand “L’Occitane”.
Service is impeccable!
We stayed there only 2 nights, I wish we have more time to enjoy this outstanding hotel.
If there will be 10 starts rating I’d definitely give all 10 starts.

Hotel Estherea is a beautiful gem of a hotel located directly on the Singel Canal. You are staying in a mansion not an impersonal chain hotel. It is within walking distance of almost any place you would need to go in Amsterdam. I booked a room with the full bath, the room was gorgeous, and romantic. We could have spent extra for a room overlooking the canal, but didn't think it necessary. We also prebooked the breakfast, so we paid 13Euros instead of 18Euros. The breakfast was amazing and well worth it, and a great way to start the day. There were some options for a prepaid breakfast also, but with the room type we selected breakfast included wasn't an option. The staff was friendly and helpful. The bar is cute, and the lobby inviting.

Upon check-in they give you an IPad to use with free wifi. There are also two desk top pcs in the lobby along with a printer to print out your boarding passes.

Within easy walking distance is many restaurants on Spui Square, there are restaurants along the Singel Canal, 2 blocks walk to Dam Square. We also walked to the Anne Frank House, around 20 minute walk, and also to the Van Gough Museum 40 minute walk.
