“Beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2013

We were here for just one night, on a long layover at the end of our honeymoon, so we didn't get to take full advantage of all the amazing amenities this hotel has to offer. What we did get to experience - wow!! After checking in, we mentioned to the bell boy that we were on our honeymoon. After showing us around our room, he excused himself and came back 3 minutes later with a congratulatory box of chocolates. The room was exquisitely beautiful and clean, and the bed was wonderfully soft. The entire hotel is luxuriously and whimsically decorated. There are fresh flowers and crystal chandeliers everywhere. I amused myself for a while with the large saltwater aquarium in the sitting room directly off the lobby. All the staff were very welcoming and friendly, and complimentary coffee/tea/cappuccino and other hot drinks were available at all times from a Keurig-type machine. One thing to be aware of: the complimentary internet is only available on the ground floor. Overall it was a wonderful experience to cap our honeymoon!

I have just read some of the latest good reviews of this hotel and must say that I agree with them all. My husband and I have traveled a lot; I always research and try to find the most beautiful places to stay as that is very important to me. I was thrilled with this hotel...it DOES spoil you for anywhere else! A boutique environment in historic buildings, friendly staff, and one of the most beautiful rooms I've experienced. The mattress, pillows and comforter were so comfortable that I never wanted to get out of bed! A housekeeper told us that she liked working there because each room is different. Apparently two sisters own the hotel and care a lot about its design.

A coffee and hot chocolate machine in the sumptuous lobby was available at any time...the breakfast was huge, varied and in the most beautiful breakfast room ever. The pictures don't really capture what it was like to be there. And we paid less here than in some bed and breakfasts. Absolutely great!

Room Tip: Of course, a room with canal view would be great, but it costs more. We had a room with a window ove...

I stayed here on a recent trip to Amsterdam with my grandfather. There is nothing about this place we could fault. Not one single thing. My grandfather stayed here years (and years) and was thoroughly impressed that the hotel had kept up its stellar reputation.

From the warm welcome to the décor, the size of the rooms to the beautiful breakfast, Hotel Estherea is a true gem! It's off the beaten tourist tracks of the red light district etc but that's what makes it great. The rooms, much like the entire hotel, are beautifully decorated and completely spotless. I spent a good 20 minutes whilst we checked in just admiring things in the different areas of the ground floor.
There are free hot and cold drinks, biscuits, and sweets available in the lobby and the bar is open whenever you need it. Also, here is a massive plus, there's free WiFi available throughout the hotel and there are computers in the lobby for guests to use too. Also, canal view rooms are great.

H.E. is located close to Dam square but it quiet enough to get a great sleep and to listen to little else than the canals and the bikes. It's well located for shops and restaurants too. Head away from Dam square to get a real taste of where the locals eat and shop.

I will be visiting again ASAP.

Room Tip: Ask for a canal view room.

Having never visited Amsterdam before, our stay at Hotel Estherea made this an incredible introduction to this friendly city. From the moment you step into the hotel, you are made to feel welcome from all staff, without exception. . Rather that the slightly 'forced smile greeting' you receive at many hotel receptions, here there was genuine warmth and care that our stay was a happy one. The bedrooms are all individually decorated with great attention to detail. Throughout the hotel, there is a relaxing atmosphere - from the informal library and seating areas to the beautifully decorated cocktail bar and breakfast lounge. Fresh flowers everywhere and tasteful/individual Christmas decorations. Worth pre-booking the breakfast - 5 euros cheaper and well worth the 13 euros. Very fresh ingredients - cooked and baked goods - and includes prosecco! Definitely will be returning to this hotel!

Excellent hotel in a great location. The rooms are comfortable, warmly furnished. The common spaces are excellent: a library, computers available for guests, various sofas, and a table where you can get tea, coffee, hot chocolate, water, biscuits and cakes at every time of the day, for free.
The location is perfect: probably the best street of Amsterdam, directly on the canal, and very close to all major attractions.

My husband and I love to travel and have travelled to many places and have stayed in many hotels, but Hotel Estherea is by far the best hotel we have ever stayed in. We didn't even have to break the bank for such a high end hotel! The hospitality was excellent. We felt at home from the beginning to the very end of our stay. The hotel was filled with Amsterdam charm from the asthetics to the employees. And if we wanted to unwind after a long day of touring the city, we would lounge in their beautifully designed lobby drinking their delicious coffee or in their very trendy bar area for a quick drink. The room was exceptionally clean and was always ready and turned down by the time we returned from our full day of touring. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Amsterdam and look forward to staying here again for all our future visits!

This hotel is for you if you don't like overcrowded soulless city hotels from glass and concrete.
Here you will stay in a typical Amsterdam canal building in historical city center. Hotel is VERY beautifully decorated, is managed by a family and as soon as you're inside you feel that you're really a valued guest for every staff member. Wonderful black cat living in the lobby will help you feel yourself like home.

Our classic double room on 2nd floor was not large, but comfortable. We had a free safe box, two free bottles of water were put in our fridge every day. Free slippers, an iron and a small ironing board were also available in our room. The building is of 17th century, so floor sound insulation is not perfect and probably you will hear some noise from the room overhead. The bathroom with a double vanity basin was also comfortable and clean. Shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, soap - during our 7 nights stay everything was replaced as soon as used. Towels were changed every day and were perfectly clean.

Breakfast was of good quality, tasty and substantial, although identical every day and a bit pricey (€18 per day per person).

During all the day you can have free coffee or tea with cookies/candies/chocolates, the machine is in the lobby.

Hotel is perfectly situated on Singel canal, about halfway between Central station and Museumplein. 10 min walk from Dam square, 5-7 min from the tram station "Spui" (tram lines # 1, 2, 5). So it will take 15-20 min to get to the Central station or to Rijksmuseum.

To get to the hotel and back to the Schiphol we booked Connexxion Hotel Shuttle, the ride has taken about 30 min.
