“Cozy hotel with family atmosphere and elegant design”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013

This hotel is for you if you don't like overcrowded soulless city hotels from glass and concrete.
Here you will stay in a typical Amsterdam canal building in historical city center. Hotel is VERY beautifully decorated, is managed by a family and as soon as you're inside you feel that you're really a valued guest for every staff member. Wonderful black cat living in the lobby will help you feel yourself like home.

Our classic double room on 2nd floor was not large, but comfortable. We had a free safe box, two free bottles of water were put in our fridge every day. Free slippers, an iron and a small ironing board were also available in our room. The building is of 17th century, so floor sound insulation is not perfect and probably you will hear some noise from the room overhead. The bathroom with a double vanity basin was also comfortable and clean. Shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, soap - during our 7 nights stay everything was replaced as soon as used. Towels were changed every day and were perfectly clean.

Breakfast was of good quality, tasty and substantial, although identical every day and a bit pricey (€18 per day per person).

During all the day you can have free coffee or tea with cookies/candies/chocolates, the machine is in the lobby.

Hotel is perfectly situated on Singel canal, about halfway between Central station and Museumplein. 10 min walk from Dam square, 5-7 min from the tram station "Spui" (tram lines # 1, 2, 5). So it will take 15-20 min to get to the Central station or to Rijksmuseum.

To get to the hotel and back to the Schiphol we booked Connexxion Hotel Shuttle, the ride has taken about 30 min.

It is like a warm blanket that surrounds you, when you come in this friendly home on a cold, rainy day. There is a cappuccino or a tea waiting for you. And the reception youngsters do everything
to feel you welcome. Once you experienced the Esteréa, you go back. The cosy decoration and
the feeling of old Amsterdam, make you forget the small staircases (there is a modern elevator!) and the beautiful, but sometimes small rooms. Perfect beds, excellent breakfast, an idyllic library and super location: you understand why we love to return to this family owned hotel.
.

Room Tip: love the canal side rooms . More expensive, but soooo Amsterdam when you wake up.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were initially told that they did not expect us until the following day. After they sorted out their mistake, the rest of our stay had been very enjoyable. The breakfast was very good. They also gave us a free breakfast as compensation. The hotel was very clean and tidy. The staff were friendly and helpful. A room with canal view was worth the money. Location was good in that restaurants and many city attractions were closeby. It was a pleasure to stay in such a magnificent period building.

Exactly what we had hoped for when booking a few nights away in Amsterdam. Especially grateful for the upgrade to a deluxe with jacuzzi bath. We also really enjoyed the complimentary coffee, tea and delicious cakes on return after a busy day walking. The staff were all very friendly and keen to help. We will be recommending this hotel to friends and family.

A truly excellent example of what a boutique hotel should be. Great character, helpful staff, great bar and a very comfortable room. A small tip - If you are staying the weekend, the dining room is quite small so don't arrive down for breakfast 15 minutes before the catering service ends or you'll end up queuing for your buffet breakfast. Don't despair. If this happens to you, slip around the corner to Le Pain Quotidien for an outstanding brunch.

Room Tip: If space is important to you, it's worth asking for (or paying more for) a larger room, as the r...
