On a whim, I decided to stay over in Amsterdam for 1 night. I wanted to go all out and stay somewhere 'Fancy' and was ready to pay for it. But the reviews for the "Luxury" hotels were spotty and I didn't want to make a 300 Euro mistake.

So I held my breathe, went with Hotel Estehrea after considering everything else and settled in on the location, price (I paid a special 99Euro for a Single room), and its reputation.

What a great location! Remember I only really had 24hours. This location was picturesque, right on the Canal, and close to everything. You cannot go wrong with this choice of area. For breakfast, I grabbed an excellent coffee and Croissant a mere block away on the Singel. AMAZING.

The room. My room was a lot bigger than I thought. I thought because I went with the lowest rate, I'd get a closet - but I got a very roomy/comfortable room. I was very happy. Very quaint. I'm a bit of a design snob and wanted to stay in something modern and luxurious, but I was very satisfied with the room and the decor. Okay - it could use a bit of updating - but like I said, quaint.

The staff. EXTREMELY FRIENDLY and HELPFUL. Check this out: I only had a credit card from the airport to the hotel (Taxi was about 43Euro). Because I didn't have cash, the front manager had no issue giving him cash and charging the taxi to my room. I travel every week and stay in the top 5 hotels in the world on a monthly basis. No one EVER did that for me. Extra kudos for making it easy for me. I also left my shirt and tie. They contacted me after I got home and asked me where to send it. Have you ever heard of such proactiveness?

All in all - I arrived at the Hotel at 6pm and only hit my bed at 5am to check out at 10am the next day. I had a great stay in Amsterdam and this Hotel was a big part of the reason.

We enjoyed our stay here. Great location - near everything but quiet. Charming. Tea coffee and snacks all day. Rooms are small, bathrooms are minute - but that's how it is in the old charming hotels in good locations. Standard room has almost no room to move around. Deluxe room is comfortable and has room enough for desk, table and a couple of chairs. Our rooms had great view of canal below.

We LOVED the Hotel Estherea. My husband and I stayed at the hotel for 4 nights and found it to be wonderful. It was in a great location - about a 5 minute walk to Dam Square and about 20 mins to the Anne Frank House and Central Station.

The staff was always approachable and helpful. They booked tickets for us for the Anne Frank house, in order to skip over the very very long line. I highly suggest doing this. We got our tickets at the hotel front desk, and skipped an hour long line to walk straight into the museum. The tickets were the same price as buying them directly at the Anne Frank House. The staff also provided us with free ponchos and use of umbrellas during the rainy days.

If coffee shops are on your agenda, there are many places near the hotel to check out. There are 2 shops within a 3-5 minute walk and dozens more within a 5-15 minute walk.

The free cookies/pastries/coffee/tea/hot chocolate in the lobby was a great perk. We saved quite a few Euros by snacking at the hotel instead of at a cafe!

Breakfast is 16 Euro per person, which is quite pricey. We peeked into the breakfast room one morning to see what we were missing and we were not missing much. We opted out of breakfast and went to a small bakery on the corner. We each ate breakfast for 5 Euro there - a much better choice than the 16 Euro option!

We ate dinner one night at Caprese - the Italian restaurant on the street behind the hotel with the yellow and white awning. It was inexpensive, compared to many other restaurants in the area and it was absolutely delicious.

Our room was wonderful. The bed was ok - not the best, but certainly not the worst. My only complaint in the room was the hair dryer. It was very weak and semi-broken. (I had to hold down the "on" button constantly or else the dryer would turn off.) Other than that, the room was great!

I would certainly put this hotel in a 4 star class - not a 3 star, as listed. I have stayed in many 3, 4, and 5 star properties - and this is certainly a 4 star, considering all of its amenities.

  • Liked — Beautiful decor, free goodies in the lobby
  • Disliked — Squeaky bed

We stayed at the Estherea as a birthday treat and stayed for 3 nights over a weekend. We can only echo what other visitors have said, peaceful, quiet, clean and ideally situated for all the many places in Amsterdam that a visitor would wish to see.

All staff were attentive and eager to please from check in to check out, an approach which will secure a return visit from us.

We stayed in room 210 which overlooked the Singel canal and how pleasing it was to sleep with an open window in a busy city, there are not many city hotels in which that is possible. The room was a good size with all facilities that we needed and cleaned to a high standard every day.

Like some of the other visitors we decided to breakfast out and found a lot of choice alongside the floating flower market which is less than a five minute walk and at a very reasonable cost.

On entering our room I was pleasantly surprised to find a birthday card and generous gift from the family who own the hotel.

Would I recommend the Estherea? Of course I would !!

We stayed 4 nights in this lovely hotel. We had a triple room and my mom had a single room. The single room was very small but the tasteful decoration, elegant colors, comfortable bedding and beautiful furniture made up for the size. The triple room was also beautifully, luxuriously decorated and the beds were very comfortable.

The hotel has a very old Europe charming feel. The large chandeliers in the front lobby, the lovely wood paneled library, and all the fabric just makes this hotel inviting and warm. The staff is very professional and helpful. The location is great, on a canal street and close to all attractions but at the same time quiet and picturesque.

Another lovely feature was complementary tea, coffee, hot chocolate, water, cookies and pastries that were so great to have after a long day of walking around town. I found this very thoughful. I definitely recommend this hotel to all.
