We stayed over in Amsterdam for four nights en route to Prague -- my mother, my sister & I. We all had a fabulous time at the Hotel Estherea -- and agreed it was one of the nicest places ever. The hotel is in a perfect location on a quiet & lovely canal within easy walking distance of many major sites (Dam Square/Anne Frank House); a tram stop is just a block or so behind the hotel. There are many excellent & reasonably priced restaurants very close by. The staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful and made excellent suggestions for restaurants, tours, etc.. Best of all, the hotel is gorgeously decorated in old-fashioned Dutch style. It's a very atmospheric canal house, but with all of the modern comforts -- and then some. Coffee, a large assortment of teas, cocoa or ice water (with mint & lemon) are always available for guests to enjoy; in the afternoons & at night savories and/or sweets (e.g. gingerbread, pastries, olives etc.) are also set out. As Amsterdam was still cold in early April (though the hotel was always warm), we got into the habit of enjoying tea in the afternoon & camomile tea with cake at night while watching the interesting tropical fish tank in the beautiful livingroom/lobby before heading up to bed. Our room for 3 was large and very beautiful; the bathroom was large and well-equiped. All and all, a wonderful treat. I''d love to go back -- anytime!!

  • Liked — Location, old-fashioned canal-house style, elevator (!), wonderful staff
  • Disliked — Our stay was too short !

My family and I have recently stayed at Estherea and I loved the hotel. The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly and the location was just perfect.
Although the rooms were small ( one was even tiny) and two of the bathrooms equally quite small, we were deligheted with the character of this canal house.
It was near everything in a quiet canal - Singel- and you could walk everywhere.
We also enjoyed the coffee, tea and hot chocolate facilities in the lobby as well as the small biscuits.
It was really a delightful experience I would like to repeat.

My mother and I have just come back from Amsterdam and I chose to stay at this hotel due to the great feedback I had found on Tripadvisor.

I have to say the hotel was superb!!! The check in staff very helpful and friendly, the decor very welcoming, the rooms were smallish but so beautifully and tastefull decorated, we really couldnt have wanted anything more. The bathrooms were very clean and the beds very comfortable. A real bonus was also the free afternoon cakes/ coffee for guests.

We had a brilliant stay and will do so again!!

If you're like me you want to stay right near everything happening, but have quiet for a restful retreat.
If you're like me you want to fully experience the location you are in by making your home one of architectural ambiance unique to the area, while not forgiving luxury, comfort and class.
If you're like me you want to walk effortlessly to everything you would want to see in the heart of a city, taking the headache of transport out of your experience.
If you're like me you will relish in even the smallest den of rest at the Hotel Estherea. Drink it in.

  • Liked — location, location, location- you want to feel safe. even the smallest amount of bad energy in hotel neighborhood can dampen your spirits
  • Disliked — the front desk staff was just a bit smug and not several times know where things were nor could answer simple questions

I have been to Amsterdam a dozen times in the last 10 years and stayed at a different hotel each time because I've never had a good hotel experience in Amsterdam: tiny rooms and tinier bathrooms, high prices and staff that range from cooly efficient to condescending insolence. So when I read the glowing reviews of the Estherea, I had hope - unfortunately unfounded. I was assigned the smallest room in the hotel although my rate was the normal one for a double room (well over $300US/night). It was so small, that when I took the large decorative pillows off the bed the only place to put them was on the floor and that left maybe 5 narrow feet to walk around the bed that was wedged in an alcove. The room could best be described as shabby, carpet that hadn't been changed in 20 years (an issue because you had to get on your hands and knees to get to the room safe in the bottom of the cupboard - not a closet). There were holes in the walls left unfilled, 80's style metallic wall paper and beat up cheaply made furniture. It did have a view on the canal, but that just meant it was noisy - I could hear a couple talking at normal voice through the walls too. I asked to move and of course they were full. The staff was reasonably friendly but not helpful. The only good points were the neighborhood and the breakfast. The lobby was rather grand, but in the flower capital of the world it was odd to see so many fake, glittery flower arrangements and I never spent time in the lobby anyway. So still searching for a decent reasonably priced hotel in Amsterdam.

  • Liked — Neighborhood and on a canal
  • Disliked — The room
