“Gorgeous New Year gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights over New Year and both felt this was one of the best hotel experiences we'd had. The staff were really welcoming and couldn't do enough to help us out-from finding and booking us a fantastic New Year's Eve restaurant to helping us with all our questions and suggestions on where to go, they really were awesome. We also think we had the best room in the hotel, with a balcony, jacuzzi and 4 poster bed to watch the NYE fireworks which were also amazing, if a little crazy! They also had lots of little nice touches like little bottles of prosecco waiting in our room for nye with a little poem-a simple nice touch which for me sums up this hotel. The location is awesome, it's central so you're minutes from lots of nice restaurants and shops but quiet enough to completely relax. The reception is lush and comfortable (with a very cool fish tank) and our room was large, comfortable and quiet. All in all we both agreed this was one of our best New Years Eve experiences ever, and hotel Estherea was definitely a big part of that.

Room Tip: Go for a deluxe room, it's worth it

This intimate hotel is absolutely delightful. It is beautifully decorated, has great food and the service is fantastic while being very comfortable. It is well located on a quiet street.
The breakfasts are excellent and well worth the charge.

Room Tip: The rooms are small but very comfortable and beautifully decorated.

This hotel was the perfect place to stay for a short Amsterdam break over the Christmas period.
The hotel was artfully and sumptuously decorated for Christmas and the Christmas tree was spectacular. The hotel is breathtakingly gorgeous in any season and the fish tank in the Lobby kept my two boys fascinated for hours. We had two interconnected standard rooms, not canal facing but we were only in the rooms in darkness hours anyway so the view would have been wasted on us. The size and the facilities of the rooms were very adequate for our needs and we didn't feel that we were missing out on anything that we might have got extra in an upgrade. The hotel is indeed ideally placed for all the sights and attractions to be visited conveniently on foot. The breakfast is extremely delicious with a huge variety of different foods available in the buffet for all tastes, the best croissants I have ever had, it is expensive when feeding a family of four but not bad value when you consider it brunch because it is available until 12 noon. The little cookies and sweets that you can help yourself to were a very welcome treat with a complimentary coffee or hot chocolate when coming in from the cold. The only negative that I can think of is the WiFI could only be picked up in the bar area of the lobby/lounge and not in the whole lobby/lounge so not always convenient to pick up emails etc when the bar seating area was occupied by other guests. The staff of the hotel were nice, friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. I DO recommend this hotel very highly and will be visiting again.

Room Tip: If you are in an internal room as we were, close the curtains at night because it is very easy to se...

Stayed in a canal facing room this summer. The front desk was friendly and efficient and check-in took only a moment. Our room was small but comfortable and nicely decorated, with a small seating area. The hotel is very convenient for exploring Amsterdam, there are countless shops, cafes and restaurants all within a few blocks of the front door. We had rented a car, and kept it parked on the street instead of the parking garage because there were no in-out privileges. It didn't really bother us as we are used to living and driving downtown. Our only complaint would be the louvered door between the bathroom and the bedroom. There really is only an illusion of privacy.

Room Tip: Splurge on a canal room.

We stayed there last weekend for a romantic short break in one of our favourite cities.
The location (on Singel) is very convenient and the staff were generally friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was good - both quality and quantity - though not included in the room rate and not particularly cheap.
Our room faced the canal - which gave a good view, though it was fortunate that canal works involving a huge floating crane had halted - presumably for Christmas. The curtains only just about met, letting in quite a lot of light from the huge floodlights on the front of the building.
Our second floor room was a reasonable size and the bed was large and comfortable.
The presence of a lift was a bonus.
The bathroom was "bijou" but functioned OK, except for the ventilation fan and an annoyingly flappy and intrusive shower-curtain.
My only serious reservation is that (in common with a lot of the older hotels) sound insulation is severely lacking. Noisy footsteps overhead at 2am were annoying - as were all the sounds of daily (and nocturnal) life coming from the adjoining rooms and the corridors. Maybe it was the time of year, but the hotel seems popular with families, so be prepared for the sound of happy (and not-so-happy!!) children.
Would I stay again? On balance, probably not...

Room Tip: Your choice. I liked the canal view.

We stayed for 4 nights in this lovely hotel and couldn't fault it. Well, ok, the decor is a little mental, with chandeliers, heavy print wallpapers, drapes, stuffed animals and cushions everywhere but somehow it just about stayed on the right side of characterful. The rooms are good a good size and well appointed although the bathroom was pretty small (in fact the wife thought it was a wardrobe when she first opened the door). The breakfast was excellent and the tea and coffee available in the lobby was similarly very good, supported by a constant supply of goodies (be prepared for the lovely but artery-hardening and waistline expanding oliebollen). Service was good; helpful, cheerful staff at the desk but slightly let down by the bar service as they had one guy running round the hotel and we had to go chasing him a few times to get a drink. Overall, excellent, clean, just 5 minutes walk from the Dam plaza and thoroughly recommended. Oh and a little gym in the basement to work off the oliebollen...

Room Tip: Canal side rooms have a good view.
