We are just back from 4 nights at the Hotel Estherea. It is an outstanding hotel. It is beautifully decorated and extremely well run. The hotel staff is very helpful. Some of them might be a little formal, but all tried their best to help us in any way they could, from getting dining reservations to having a room for us when we arrived at 7 am - amazing! The location was unbeatable - no matter where we wanted to go in the city, it was an easy walk. We finally took the tram the last night, just for the experience. We had a double without the canal view, but it was very spacious. The bathroom, though small, was both spotless, and well equipped. The price was very fair. Even with the sad state of the dollar, it average the same as a recent stay at the San Diego Embassy Suites.
I can't thank all the reviewers enough for all the great information that they have given in their reviews. They helped make our trip go smoothly. From needing our credit card pin number to get the train tickets from the airport to finding the Gollum - a neat brown cafe -your advice was invaluable. I strongly recommend reading all the reviews you can- I felt so comfortable choosing restaurants and finding places - like the advice from about 25 close friends!
Don't hesitate trying the Luden - just around the block. The food was terrific, reasonably priced, especially in the Brasserie in the front, and felt like being in Paris. The Cafe Luxembourg was also fun, and just a little further down the street. The soups and fries were especially good. The hotel's location near so many great restaurants is just icing on the cake. We tried the hotel breakfast, and it was very good, but also crowded because they were full while we were there. So we only ate there once. Broodje Bert on the corner serves a bargain full breakfast or just a roll if you want, simple but fun to sit down and watch the world go by in front of you while sipping your coffee.
Yes, we had a wonderful time. The weather was cold and rainy - it even snowed. But it didn't matter, we had such a good time in Amsterdam - we recommend it highly- and everyone spoke English!

I am just back from the Hotel Estherea having spent 4 nights there with my 3 sisters. We booked a quadruple room (yes we are a close family!) which was quite spacious compared to the cramped offering of Paris the previous year. The hotel is located on the Singel canal which is a quiet part of the city but also very central for site seeing. The hotel has a quaint olde worlde feel to it the moment you enter. Luxurious fabrics, carpets and curtains are used throughout the hotel as well as 2 very spectacular chandeliers in the lobby - quality and class without being stuffy. There is a fantastic aquarium just inside the front door which we spent 10 minutes looking at everytime we left or returned to the hotel! Beakfast was a buffet style and of a very high standard with plenty of variety to cater for all tastes. The other nice touch was the complimentary hot drinks, chocolates, fruit, sweets and cakes which were available throughout the day and of course the resident housecat that occasionally graced the lobby! The staff were also very helpful and courteous. For beer lovers there is a cafe down the side street from the hotel - Cafe Gollem which sells over 200 speciality beers.

I was whisked away for my birthday to amsterdam and I have to say that dispite the rain Hotel Estherea really made our trip!
There is coffee and tea, cakes and sweets all free of charge in the foyer and if youre ever fortunate enough to see the foyer in this hotel you will definitely be stopping for a while just to enjoy the detail and elegance and of course the breath taking aquarium!

The room was fantastic, we had a lovely view overlooking the canal, more than enough room for two with a luxurious seating area and the most comforable bed you will ever have the opportunity sleep in!

The breakfast is well worth staying for with excellent choice for every type of visitor before you venture out for the day. The staff were extremely helpful and arranged for our car to be stored for the duration of our stay (as the hotel is so central everything is well within walking distance). They also pre booked the things we decided to do during our stay for us such as ann franks house etc. Well worth asking them to do to avoid the ques.

We had an absolutely wondeful time and I had a wonderul birthday. The hotel was absolutely faultless and the attention to detail and comfort was impressive, the only bad thing about this hotel was that it was so comfortable I didnt want to go out during the days!

Will definitly be booking this hotel again!

  • Liked — Attention to detail and atmosphere
  • Disliked — Bed was far too comfy and I looked forward to getting back after our day out!

No hotel booking website had this hotel available for our required dates so we had to book this straight from the hotel, which was fine.

We arrived in Amsterdam very early on 1 March and arrived at the hotel at 7am. We were efficiently checked in but the room was not ready so we hung around before the weather became more conducive for outdoor exploration. We really liked the cosy intimate decoration downstairs, which wasn't too ornate but which had an air of old elegance and detail. The library was well stocked and the chairs were very comfortable.

The room we had (#316) had no view but was more than sufficient for 2 persons. Amenities were as expected, although we did find the bed (queen-sized) a little small because we were so used to our king-sized bed at home. Room was well furnished and decorated and I didn't find the internet rate of 10 euros a day (from 12pm to 12pm the next day) exorbitant.

Reception was always courteous and polite and the breakfast spread was simple yet good (14 euros per person), with a small but fresh selection of hams, cheeses, fruits and some hot dishes.

Location was great for walking everywhere (we only ever took the tram once in our entire 3-night stay), except when we were lugging our luggage from the central station to the hotel.

I would definitely recommend this as a good alternative to the numerous large chain hotels in the city.
