“Fantastic.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012 via mobile

Fantastic hotel with great staff. In a quite bit in the centre of Amsterdam. We received a free upgrade for the two rooms we booked. The lobby, rooms and everything about this hotel are first class. This is better than some five star hotels I have stopped in thinking about it this is in my top five favourite hotels.

After an extensive search, this was one of the only Amsterdam hotels we could find that offered interconnecting rooms. We were rewarded by a hotel that was perfect in every way. The decor is beautiful and careful, with attention to every detail, from the large marine aquarium in the entrance lobby to the jacuzzi in each bathroom and complimentary toys for our children (who were very happy about that, unsurprisingly!). The service was faultless, with very helpful staff who gave us lots of information about the city and how to book local attractions. The rooms were immaculate and and beautifully furnished, and we ate so much at the delicious breakfast buffet each day that we were hardly able to move afterwards. This is without any doubt one of the best hotels we have ever visited and it thoroughly merits the rave reviews it has received.

This one's a winner for any traveller, business or pleasure. Entering the door is like heaving a sigh - you leave the hustle and dirt of the Amsterdam streets and enter a pristine place of calm repose. Staff are spectacularly attentive, the decor is supremely tasteful, the rooms are small but perfectly appointed. Kudos to the design and HR team at this hotel. We walked from the train station, which took us about 20 minutes. Not bad, but take a taxi if you are heavily laden or have children with you. We loved the canal view - it was very tempting to just sit at the window and watch the world go by. Amsterdam is a young person's town, but this hotel would suit anyone who needs a place to tuck themselves away to rest up for the next foray.

Room Tip: Grab the canal view if you can.

This is a great relaxing location and our room overlooking the canal added to this feeling of being away from the hustle and bustle of the centre, which was only a five minute walk to the likes of Dam Square and the nightlife. This hotel has lots of character, is exceptionally clean, with friendly helpful staff. Only slight negative and the reason for not giving 5 stars was the room size was very small for the price and breakfast was extra.

Room Tip: Check room size when booking

This hotel is a beautiful place and a pleasure to stay in, however I forget to mention wifi. Estherea does offer 2 computers and a printer for use of hotel guests however you cannot use your ipad or iphone for wifi. They will lend you an ipad but that is a bit redundant when you have your own. A simple suggestion, charge a little more to the room for wifi usage if you want access based on an allotted download, you use your room number and name each time you log in. Simple but effective and only user pays

The location was pretty good and it was easy to walk to the flower market, museums, etc. Our room was a canal view but was TINY. Truly, we've had cruise ship rooms bigger than this. I realize rooms in Amsterdam are small and perhaps I am a bit biased from travelling in Scotland for a week prior to this, but there was no room for our bags! We were constantly shuffling them from one wall to another to have enough space for two people to walk and finally piled them in front of the window, which meant the desk and chair were pretty worthless. Oddly, the small closet had a full size ironing board taking up most of the space. Service was good. We didn't get the breakfast but found pastry shops nearby with croissants, etc. There is a coffee/tea/hot chocolate bar downstairs, not in the room, if that matters to you. Downstairs decor is trendy funky. There is a safe and the AC works well.

The Estheréa hotel is one that we would certainly return to. The staff were friendly. The service was excellent. The bedrooms were extremely well appointed and spotlessly clean. Flowers and antiques adorned the reception area and made it very welcoming. Coffee, tea and cookies on offer all day long. Lovely breakfast. Location is on the Singel canal and 10 minutes from Dam Square and couldn’t have been better. I stay in many hotels for pleasure and business and don’t normally rave about them. This is an exception to the rule. I am raving about it! It was real treat and made our stay in Amsterdam a really great trip. Enjoy…

Room Tip: Take a room overlooking canal or the back street. Try and not go for the courtyard as it is not so...
