Wow! What a fantastic hotel! We stayed for 3 nights for my husband's 30th birthday, and had a great time. From the minute we entered the building to the time we left the staff were polite, friendly, and helpful. The hotel is very well decorated and rather plush with its two or three chandeliers in the lobby and lounge, fab aquarium (find Nemo!) and well stocked library with newspapers and magazines galore!
The room was fantastic!- see photo- As it was my husband's 30th they upgraded us for free to a deluxe canal view room which was just lovely! Quite a large room with 3 large windows, four poster bed, seating area with desk and marble bathroom. The bathroom may not have been as big as some of the bathrooms I've seen pictured on this site but it was good none the less and had everything you needed.
The view onto the canal was great - fab for people watching!
But as other people have said, one of the best things about this hotel is the free tea (including many herbal varieties), coffee, hot choc and cakes, croissants etc in the lobby. We didn't bother with breakfast at the hotel as there are some lovely cafes just round the corner from the hotel, or eat at Pancake Corner in the Leidsplein and have a massive pancake like I did for about 5 euros! Yum!
There are some fab restaurants near the hotel - if you turn right out the main door of the hotel then right again (as if you;re going round the back of the hotel) there is a restaurant caled November which served 2 courses for 19 euros, we had steak which was huge! Also, the Indian Restaurant Shiva on Reguliersdwarsstraat is amazing! fab staff and fab food! Not too expensive neither!
The Artis complex place is quite good to visit - it houses a zoo, aquarium, insectarium, butterfly house etc, and cost us 17 euros each for the whole day.
All in all we had an amazing time and highly recommend this hotel! Feel free to email me if you want to ask anything! Shona xx
