If you are tired of corporate hotels this is the place for you. Small individual hotel near centre easy to find, friendly staff. As a business traveler it was a breath of fresh air. Small standard double room with great view of canal suited us just fine.

Try it ;-)

We have stayed at the hotel three times, always for at least two nights. The first time we stayed in a room on the top floor. That was ok and we were quite impressed so rebooked to stay before and after flights from Amsterdam. However, these last times were very disappointing. The rooms we stayed in were ok in size, but have the noisiest floorboards ever. It was so bad we hardly slept because of guests moving around above us. We stayed in rooms overlooking the internal courtyard on the first and fourth floors. The reception area is quite cosy, but the coffee machine is often breaking. The staff is a mixed bag. From a very pleasant and helpful young lady, to the most terribly grumpy man on reception. Make sure you check your bill before you leave. The people next to us at check out were charged for breakfast they didn't have and other quests having meetings there were also complaining to the grumpy man about being overcharged. This hotel has totally lost it for us. We will not be returning.

  • Disliked — Terribly noisey floorboards

Wow! What a fantastic hotel! We stayed for 3 nights for my husband's 30th birthday, and had a great time. From the minute we entered the building to the time we left the staff were polite, friendly, and helpful. The hotel is very well decorated and rather plush with its two or three chandeliers in the lobby and lounge, fab aquarium (find Nemo!) and well stocked library with newspapers and magazines galore!
The room was fantastic!- see photo- As it was my husband's 30th they upgraded us for free to a deluxe canal view room which was just lovely! Quite a large room with 3 large windows, four poster bed, seating area with desk and marble bathroom. The bathroom may not have been as big as some of the bathrooms I've seen pictured on this site but it was good none the less and had everything you needed.
The view onto the canal was great - fab for people watching!
But as other people have said, one of the best things about this hotel is the free tea (including many herbal varieties), coffee, hot choc and cakes, croissants etc in the lobby. We didn't bother with breakfast at the hotel as there are some lovely cafes just round the corner from the hotel, or eat at Pancake Corner in the Leidsplein and have a massive pancake like I did for about 5 euros! Yum!
There are some fab restaurants near the hotel - if you turn right out the main door of the hotel then right again (as if you;re going round the back of the hotel) there is a restaurant caled November which served 2 courses for 19 euros, we had steak which was huge! Also, the Indian Restaurant Shiva on Reguliersdwarsstraat is amazing! fab staff and fab food! Not too expensive neither!
The Artis complex place is quite good to visit - it houses a zoo, aquarium, insectarium, butterfly house etc, and cost us 17 euros each for the whole day.
All in all we had an amazing time and highly recommend this hotel! Feel free to email me if you want to ask anything! Shona xx

  • Liked — Fantastic rooms! Friendly staff and fab free tes/coffee/cakes all day long in the lobby! Withing walking distant to all major sites, as well as train station.

I took my Fiancee here for a 3 night stay for his birthday. We enjoy city breaks and his brother lives here so it killed two birds with one stone. I booked this hotel based on trip advisors rating and I was not disappointed. The hotel is just lovely and the staff extremely polite and helpful. We had the breakfast one of the days and everything was lovely, as were the lamb burgers we ordered from room service one day. I have already recommended this hotel to others and I will definitely book again when we next go to see my fiancee's brother.

  • Liked — The chandeliers in reception and the gorgeous sumptious decor.
  • Disliked — We were given 2 single beds instead of the double booked... still loved the place.

Delighted with this Hotel, really felt we had found a little Gem!
Fronts onto a canal...lovely...and if you are there on a sunday, stroll along the canal to the local flower stalls...Perfect!
Hotel was within easy walking distance of everything, we went at christmas, and there is a small christmas market and ice rink set up in the square!
The hotel was beautifully furnished, clean and very friendly.
Would love to return. Shuttle bus available from the airport.
Finally....the hotel provided the most comfortable PILLOWS I have ever lay on in a hotel!!!
I know that sounds mad, but if you are fussy about pillows, like me, you'll appreciate it!
