This hotel was one of those rare things...a perfect fit. Not a big chain so it had a personal touch, but very well appointed. The location was excellent in one of the inner canal rings on Singel. There was great dining and shopping nearby.

We stayed at a chain hotel for one night before Estherea and it was more expensive and much less pleasant. Our Estherea room was just configured great, the bathroom had 2 sinks, plenty of room and a great shower (the actual bath faucet has to be turned the the left to get the shower to work-it was a bit tricky). The rooms were updated with great linens and very clean. The common areas were very cozy. I didn't eat at the hotel restaurant. Breakfast is very pricey and we didn't want to eat that much so we went a few doors down to get a baguette for breakfast-1 Euro. One thing I loved about the hotel was the free coffee/tee bar they have in the lobby. It's a beautiful bit of custom-built carpenty that has all sorts of teas, sweeteners, and an awesome coffee maker where you just press a button. This is a great perk in a hotel when you just want to get going in the morning and don't want to have to sit down and order a simple cup of coffee.

We couldn't stop saying how great we thought the hotel was. We paid a bit more for a canal view (our room was 314 and great) but it really made our stay nicer being able to look out onto the canal.

I totally recommend this.

We stayed at Hotel Estherea at the end of August.
The hotel is very central and within walking distance
to the main attractions like Dam square, the Red Light District, museums and Central Station.
The service provided by the staff at the front desk was excellent - both at check in & check out as well as with any requests during
our stay regarding places to visit and reservations for lunch or
dinner.
Our room was spacious and very comfortable and the bathroom
spotless.
A pleasant surprise especially after a day spent sightseeing was the coffee/hot chocolate provided in the foyer for guests.
We loved our stay in Amsterdam and at Hotel Estherea and if we ever return we certainly will look forward to staying at Hotel Estherea again.
Thank you to all for making our stay a really memorable one.

We are a family of 5 with 3 teenage boys. The location was perfect, in the middle of the "9 streets" section and it allowed us to walk almost everywhere. We walked to the red light district, the museums, the train station and the casino all within a 15 minute walk. great restraunts on left out of the hotel, one block then down to the next street then left to the next street, away from the canel. we left the boys in bed and got breakfast at a close-by pancakes cafe each morning we found the hotel breakfast to be expensive and not that good. The staff was very helpful but a little snootie. our room overlooked the singel canal. we had two rooms which ajoined at at a "T" at the end of the hallway. there was a main door which allowed us to keep the room doors open between us and each room had its own door as well.

This is what a hotel should be. We took the luxury double rooms with canal view as we had heard the regular rooms can be small. it was 230 euro without meals. very comfortable plenty of space, nice view. the location is perfect. very scenic and quiet but easily accesible to everything. breakfast was good but at 14E could get pricey for a large group. one morn we just ate their free coffee/hot chocolate/cookies/cakes in the lobby and grabbed a croissant at the bakery next door. The people are nice as well. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

We stayed in this hotel on a beautiful October Saturday in 2006.

The good: the location is perfect. It's right near all the tourist attractions, on a beautiful canal on a relatively quiet street. The hotel staff was polite (though not very warm and friendly) and helpful with directions. The entree, the lobby, the rooms (see photo), hallways and the restaurant areas are very well and tastefully decorated. It's classy from the outside (see photo) and from the inside. Everything is very clean. The price for breakfast (14 euros) is not expensive. Complementary hot chocolate, coffee and tea is available 24 hours a day in the lobby.
The shower was powerful and fully made up for the small bath you had to stand in to enjoy it.

The bad: we were placed in a tiny (see photo) 'normal' double room (but with a great view of the canal, see photo). They did say that if the room was too small, we could switch and this was one of the smallest room in the hotel. We only spend there one night, so with little luggage it was ok for one night. We would not have stayed in that room for any longer. The bathroom was tiny too. There was not enough room for two people. There wasn't even enough room for one! Another bad thing was the noise. We could hear the people above us walking around in their room, we could hear the slamming of closet doors from our neighbors and all the noise from the hallways. Also we couldn't seem to get the heater down, the temperature was centrally controlled. It caused the room to be way too warm and the air to be as dry as the air in airplanes. Our eyes even hurt a bit! So we slept with the window open. But the window did cause the street sounds to come in. Even though this is a relatively quiet street in Amsterdam, there is really no such thing as a quiet street in Amsterdam. We ended up sleeping very little hours.
Breakfast was good, but nothing special. They run out of fresh fruit and the boiled eggs were disgusting.
Like everywhere in Amsterdam, parking is awful. I just wanted to mention it, but you probably won't find a hotel with better parking.
