“Really good place near the station”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2010

Great little hotel. Hip and modern, very good. Staff really nice, hotel clean. Rooms very small and modern, but hey, why spend your life in a hotel room. Very central, waliking distance to just about everywhere in central Amsterdam. Hotel will hold your bags fo free which is sweet. Breakfast as usual with hotels is a rip-off, but across the road there are a host of options. I would definately stay here again.

We approached this hotel after having a terrible experience at a nearby hostel. Immediately it felt like we were in heaven by comparison!

There are both standard rooms and deluxe rooms (twin and triples available). The deluxe rooms are very nice and have a great decoration. There is also free wired (ethernet) internet in the deluxe rooms. The Wi-Fi was not free though.

The en-suite's in the deluxe rooms are a bit odd as there is a glass door... bit awkward if you're sitting on the toilet!! Nice and clean bathroom and shower so I can live with this minor ningle.

The best bit about this place is the location. Literally minutes walk from Damrak, the Red Light District, and best of all, it's just 4 minutes down the street from Centraal Station.

I will definately stay here again!!!

*WARNING -- DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL

This hotel is a nightmare. We stayed at the WestCord City Centre Hotel for one miserable, sleepless night (original reservation for 3 nights), booking through hotels.com. The room the hotel gave us was disgusting - the carpet had dozens of unidentifiable filthy stains, the bathroom was moldy and dirty, and there was a repetitive, constant noise coming from somewhere outside the paper-thin walls of our room, which we believe originated from the elevator. And we're not referring to the little dinging noise that lets you know the elevator has arrived. We're talking about a shrill, roaring, squealing and creaking noise of the elevator moving in the shaft. We weren't even next door to the elevator. We complained to the front desk and they offered to transfer us to another room down the hall that was even worse. The hotel staff also pretended the hotel did not have severe noise problems, even after another guest overheard our story, and said she too was bothered by the horrible creaking noises in her room. The best part was the hotel staff blamed the noise on the construction going on next door, which we (luckily) did not hear. Best wishes to those guests who had to deal with that, too. We consulted with the Front Office Manager Yoeri Spruyt and were told that that we would be refunded the 2 nights of the reservation so we thought it would be all right to go ahead and check out.

When we arrived back home, we called the hotel to confirm our refund, and spoke with Yoeri who quickly transferred us to his irrational and irate manager, Shai. Shai angrily informed us that we would not be refunded our money under any circumstances. He and Yoeri lied and said Yoeri never stated we would be refunded, which statements we relied on in checking out. These lies resulted in us paying for two hotels the rest of our stay (the one we transferred to in addition to the filthy, noisy WestCord). And at the very least, if they had told us we were not getting our money back (which they absolutely did not) and we still made the decision to leave after not being able to locate a room without noise, we never would have told them we were checking out early -- why should this hotel receive the windfall of being able to rebook the room AND not return our money?! After arguing for 15 minutes, we told him that we’d make sure to write a review with an accurate account of our awful experience at this hotel and its customer "service" and he threatened to sue us (no joke!).

If you have a choice of hotels, I’d recommend the NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky. It’s similarly priced and located down the street at Dam Square (across from the Royal Palace). The rooms are clean and quiet, and the staff friendly, accommodating and honest. We had an awesome time there!! Thankfully we did not let our experience with the unsanitary and unsatisfactory WestCord and its unethical staff ruin our trip!

I was at the west cord just for one night,It's really a good choice if you want a modern and design hotel that it's not expensive. The deluxe double room I got assigned after a quick check in process was on the second floor; as read from the previous reviews the room was not that big, there is no space to place your luggage, if you are travelling with big ones i'm sure you have to climb over it to get in the bed or bathroom.I was travelling alone and with just a cabin luggage so it was not an issue. The decor of the room was modern, work desk, coffee and tea making facilities, lcd tv and a safe box; it had not much of a view overlooking the hotel's inner courtyard. The bathroom, with the famous-unfamous glass door (that is not completely clear), was also quite small and had a shower.Wifi connection in the room and public areas is free, there is also a computer at the lobby that can be used for free.Did not have breakfast at the hotel, it was priced 15 Euros. I went to a place close by, but payed for a full american breakfast with coffee and fresh orange juice the same price as the hotel's one. But I guess there are other choices, it also depends if you're looking for a plain continental breakfast. The hotel's location is really good, it is located between central station and dam square, but it's out from the hustle and bustle area.I really suggest this hotel for a week end in Amsterdam

I was visiting Amsterdam with my mother and asked for a twin room. Turns out the twin beds are just a double bed with 2 mattresses and the room is extremely small. There was barely enough space for our luggage and we didn't have much! Also, the bathroom doesn't have walls but just a glass wall/door, which can be really nice if you're a couple but wasn't really comfortable with my mum (or wouldn't be nice for 2 friends sharing the room, for example). The pluses are definitely the friendly service at the reception and the good location, close to the main train station. Overall I found the hotel much too expensive for what it is.

Like what others mentioned in the previous review, this hotel has a great location. Only 5 minutes to Dam center, 5 minutes to red light district and pretty much close to everywhere. Easy access with trem, bus and taxi outside of the hotel.
The room was small with modern design, but had a cozy ambient in it.
Bathroom was more suitable for a couple because of the glass door. The shower was great with a strong water pressure.
The bed was comfortable, the sheet was clean and changed everyday. The headboard was a little but dusty but the rest of the room was very clean. Even though we were staying in the room with a street view but at night it was quite. So we had no problem to have a good night sleep.
We didn't have our breakfast in the hotel because of the choices outside of the hotel were better with less price.
Don't be surprise with the "strange" smell in the lift and corridor. With red light district only one step ahead, there were people who prefer to enjoyed it at the hotel room.
One minus thing was the female receptionist were not as friendly as the male receptionist. They did our checked out without any hotelier attitude. No smile and not even one question about how was our stay. I can understand if it was hectic in the lobby but it wasn't. I hope they will have trainings for improve they service and their attitude towards guest.
Well, overall it was a pleasant stay.

Great hotel in a perfect location for exploring this beautiful city. As all previous reviews state its only a short walk to pretty much anywhere (Dam sq, RLD, Anne Frank etc etc) so makes it ideal for a short city break. Hotel itself was clean and the staff very friendly when asking for anything. Room was usual size for a euro hotel, bed was mega comfy especially after a 'trip' to a coffeeshop (!!) and yes the bathroom is a glass box but this was considered a novelty and certainly didnt put me or my partner off. Overall a great little hotel and will now become my preferred choice whenever I visit Amsterdam.
