“A little disappointing....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2009

Spent four days here in August for my Dutch husband's birthday. It certainly lived up to the photographs shown on Trip Adviser, but somehow fell very short of the mark in every other respect. We have stayed in some very exclusive hotels all over Europe, but felt this was very over priced and over rated for what it offered.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. We were upgraded to a deluxe room upon arrival. Chocolates and strawberries were waiting in our room that overlooked the canal. Throughout our stay, the staff at The Toren were extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfasts were great value for money and the coffee they serve in the lounge is divine (I also overheard another customer compliment the coffee whilst i was relaxing in the lounge). Although the weather was poor during our stay, The Toren is full of charm and perfect for a relaxing and romantic getaway. Anne Frank's house is also just a stones throw away and well worth a visit. Looking forward to our next trip to Amsterdam.

We booked the hotel from internet, trusting the reviews I´ve read. When we arrived was first exciting and then disapointment. We payed for a standard room, but they gave us an upgrade to a canal view room. First, the room was very small, and for small I mean you will have to open the luggage on the bed. Second, the room carpets, walls and bathroom were not so clean as I expected .
But, we can say the location is really perfect. The neighbordhood is very beautiful, with lots of charming cafes and design stores, and near all the major atractions.
The staff is very friendly and atencious.
At the end, it was an average experience, but I would not stay there again or recomend to my friends.

The Toren is nicely located on a canal.
I went on hotel.nl and could get a nice single room at 100 eur/night.
It worked perfectly for me with parking space in front of the hotel and charming staff that make you feel someone special. Small room but nicely decorated, quiet and perfect for a one night stay. The bed was really comfortable and you have a nespresso machine to get you the best morning cofee you can dream of.
I'll get back there tomorrow for another one night business trip! and might stay in a double room for the coming week end!

Very friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast was amazing for the price charged. The rooms are big and very cosy furnished. The hotel has a very good location nearby the city centre.

My husband and I went on a European vacation in October and our first stop was Amsterdam. We couldn't not have chosen a better place than The Toren. The location was great, easy to get to by city train and within walking distance from the drop off (and we had heavy bags - no problem). Robert was fabulous. We really enjoyed talking to him and listening to the history of Amsterdam and the local hot spots. He gave great recommendations for places to eat (Luwtze and Top Thai) and was very patient with our American naivete. The hotel staff was extremely courteous and helpful. The breakfast buffet every morning was perfect. Almost too much to choose from.

The only negative thing I have to say is that the rooms are smaller than I imagined. Pretty tight squeeze, but the ambiance and charm of the hotel make up for it. I definitely think the canal view is worth the little bit of extra cost. We spent a lot of time with the window open looking out over the canal in the morning and again at night.

The pros: terrific location, helpful & competent staff, comfortable beds & baths, wonderful & extensive breakfast at a reasonable charge.
The cons: not my idea of an effective interior decorating job -- all red & black and quite dark -- not for the claustrophobic. I guess it's trendy.
Still, the location's so good, and the rooms are perfectly comfortable ... if you get a good rate, you'll probably be very happy here.
