“Wonderful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2009

I stayed at the Toren Hotel for a business trip and was very pleased by the service I received. The staff are very welcoming and helpful.

The location is perfect - everything is in walking distance, and they have wonderful restaurants close by.

Went with my boyfriend for a Valentines weekend in Amsterdam. Having read the reviews we decided on The Toren. Upon arrival (at 11am) we were informed our room was not yet ready so we were presented with lots of free drinks! (We were hoping to just drop off our luggage and did not expect our room to be ready until the afternoon- so it was a lovely surprise!) We were shown to our room around 12 and it was beautiful. A lovely whirlpool bath, beautifully decorated and a canal view! We were very impressed! I would definately recommend this hotel!

It is a little expensive with the current Euro vs Sterling exchange rate; however this is a great hotel. You get the air of luxury from when you first walk in, and it continues when you settle into your room. It is worth paying the extra to secure one of the well equipped rooms.
We didn't have breakfast in the hotel, instead had a lovely breakfast pancake at Cafe - De Oude wester, Rozengracht 2/Hoek Prinsengracht, 1016 NB Amsterdam.
In the evening, we enjoyed a hidden gem, set back from the road: Manganb Tapas Restaurant and Bar, Rozengracht 106, 1016 NH Amsterdam.

Having not been in Amsterdam in over 10 years my wife and I decided to head back for a sneaky mid-week break after a tough few months. Having read a lot of reviews and research I choose the Toren due to its querky design and given Amsterdam is a unique city we wanted to stay in a unique hotel.

Well I can tell you thats what we got. We had booked a Junior Bridal Suite but on arriving we were informed that we were upgraded to their best room - the Garden Suite. This is a real funk little one room villa in the centre of the city - quite an interesting experience.

We really enjoyed our stay except for the work that is going on kicking off at 9am on the first morning we were there. In saying that they seemed to stop doing any work until we woke up the 2nd day at 11am.

Location, staff and rooms are pretty good and while not Ritz Carlton standard I felt there is no better place to stay in a city like Amsterdam.

We have just returned from our trip to Amsterdam, where we stayed at the Toren Hotel as usual. I say as usual because we've been travelling to Amsterdam for the past 10 years at least 3 times a year on buisness and pleasure.
We also tried staying at different hotels around the city.
For the past few years, we decided to stick to the Toren Hotel!!!!!!!!

Like any traveller we look for the comfort, good service, and that extra thing that makes you feel welcome and at home even when you are in a foreign country.

We walked into our room after a long day of travelling and working, and we were welcomed with a bottle of champagne and choclates. I guess this is normal procedure in any hotel for their regular guests; but there was an added value to all this they remembered from our last trip that we like bananas; so bananas we also got.

It's the whole atmosphere in this beautiful hotel that compells you to go back time after time, and the effort and hard work of the owner Eric Toren (I mention him by name because every time we are there he's around to sit and chat and make sure that every body who stays with them is welcome as a friend and not a mere client) and all his staff to make each and every guest's stay comfortable and memorable time after time.

Just returned from our second stay in the amazing Bridal Suite at Hotel Toren. It is, without any doubt, the most luxurious, romantic hotel that we have ever stayed in. We stayed to celebrate our engagement and was delighted to have been offered a complimentary bottle of champage. Rather cheekily, we asked for wine instead and to our surprise, we returned from dinner to find not just wine but chocolates and fresh strawberries too - a very, very nice touch.

I travel quite a bit due to my work so I have stayed at hundreds of places, but Toren really is miles ahead. The staff are efficient, genuinely friendly and discrete.

The decor is opulent - the attention to detail of the designers is evident. The hotel bar is pefect for an indulgent drink.

The bridal suite is in a separate building a few doors down from the main reception area so it really feels like your own private apartment. The room itself is enormous; 70m2. It features high ceilings, huge windows, a marble fireplace, the biggest 4 poster bed you'll ever see, flatscreen TV, DVD player, ipod dock, hi-fi, Nespresso coffee machine and minibar.

The absolute best part of this room is the bathroom. In the bedroom, there is a staircase leading down to a beautiful huge marble bathroom; his'n'hers basins, a double headed shower and most importantly, a jacuzzi with ample room for 2!

The room was incredibly quiet (although the cleaners were a little noisy in the surrounding rooms when we checked in at around 2pm) but this was over quickly.

Location wise its situated on a relatively quiet street with shops, restaurants and bars nearby. Dam square is about 5 mins walk away. If you're looking for a bite to eat, I reccomend Restaurant De Struisvogel, about 4 mins walk away on the same street (number 168 I think).

You should note that the bridal suite is due for refurbishment very soon, to bring the decor in line with the rest of the hotel. No doubt it will look great so we hope to be back again soon to check it out.

Overall, if you're looking for a special, luxurious place to stay whilst in Amsterdam, you will not be dissapointed at the Toren.

Fab Fab fab, hotel, booked this place on the strength of the reviews on this site and it did not fail us. Hotel location 10/10, hotel staff 10/10 hotel 10/10. I had stayed in the radisson sas previously but this did not really compare to the Toren for the feel you get from the min you walk through the door ! My girlfriend and me spent our birthday here (we have the same birthday) and it was exactly what we wanted. oh and the breakfast was 10/10 too, we took the option to have it in the room and found we had enough for lunch too !! GO ON STAY HERE !!!

  • Liked — Style and staff
  • Disliked — price but im tight !
