I was travelling with a friend, and left it up to him to book the hotel, so I didn't really know what to expect, but this hotel is really like nothing you can expect anyway.

The hotel is decorated by an award-winning designer, and done entirely in black, red and gold. This could result either in the place looking like a whore house, or extremely dramatic and spectacular, and luckily, The Toren landed on the last result.

The hotel is relatively small, situated in a quiet area not far from Anne Franks House and The Nine Streets, so a LOT of interesting shops nearby.

The hallways in the hotel are dark, and decorated lavishly to the point of almost ridiculous, EVERYTHING is glossy finishes, velvet, cut-glass, chandeliers and huge fake flower arrangements.

The rom wasn't VERY big, but very well-equipped, with flatscreen tv with cable (and several english language stations), an ipod docking station, a complimentary nespresso machine, and a huge bathroom, actually almost the same size as the rest of the room. The bathroom was just closed off from the rest of the room by a curtain, but had a large shower with a rainfall showerhead, and the biggest jacuzzi i have ever seen in a bathroom. The jacuzzi had several programs, and built-in colored lights. Oh yes.
We were happy to find that despite the whole curtain-scenario, the toilet was shielded by a door.

The room was like the rest of the hotel done in a black, red and gold color scheme, and the bathroom was largely in black marble. The bed was extremely comfortable, VERY big and had lots of pillows and cushions.

If you go for the look that this hotel has chosen, wear and tear IS going to show, but why mope about the fact that there are some scratches in the wallpaper, if you look closely? I prefer to focus on the point of thoughtful and luxurious complementaries, such as the Nespresso machine, and some extremely nice toiletries, by Rituals.

Breakfast is served in a room that doubles as bar for the rest of the day/night, and the room itself is quite something. Breakfast was not included in our rate, bur had a great selection, and the food was delicious, well worth it.

Service at the hotel is efficient and friendly, but professional. My friend had problems with his credit card when we were checking out, and they couldn't have been more helpful in a stressful situation like that. We were very happy with our stay.

From the moment we arrived the welcome was fantastic. The team were young, friendly and fun. The room was beautiful with a very romantic atmosphere. Everything we needed for a great week end was there.
I spend 150 nights a year in hotels and this was easily the best this year!

Great design hotel. You will love interior of the hotel and rooms. Staying in the hotel you will find yourself in a boutique with perfect design. Breakfast is great and delicious.
The dinner room is decorated in very rich style. We loved everything in this hotel and with any occasion will return there. For some people it may be important that it is situated in 10 minutes walking from the center, but for travelers that are coming for explore the city it is not a problem.

Fantastic experience, rooms are gorgeous, pure decadence, big chandeliers above the beds, very modern, super clean and well kept.
Staff are lovely and very helpful.

Will definantly stay there in the future.

  • Liked — Rooms were renovated and very opulent, even the smaller rooms are done beautifully
  • Disliked — Cant think of anything, apart from the coffee machine in the rooms, not being strong enough!! very minor

As I travel extensively for my job, impeccable service and central location are key for me to feel comfy.
The Toren clearly belongs to that category of places where you know the minute you walk in that you are in the "right hotel".
Thumbs up for the young ladies at reception and a special AAA mention to the room service.
I'll happily return there whether on business again or on an extended staying.
