“Unique and comfortable.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

We booked two normal rooms at this hotel for two nights and we enjoyed it! Staffs were friendly and played along with all our jokes. They were willing to help you with anything from giving you advice which restaurants to go (and not to), where to walk and what to do.

The rooms were amazing. I'd never been so caffeine fueled before--each room had a Nespresso machine with a more than usual selection of 'coffee capsules'. Decorations were great throughout from the roof to the wallpapers. Bathrooms though depend on which room you get. One of the rooms we have had a great bathroom, another has a rather outdated look--perhaps a renovation is pending.

Breakfast was not expensive and of high quality. We planned to eat out every morning but ended up having breakfast at the hotel every morning.

Wi-Fi is free in this hotel. Location is great. Printing facilities (basically for printing boarding passes) are not available at this hotel BUT the staffs were so nice they actually let us e-mail what we wanted to print to them and they delivered it right to our door! I would highly recommend you to explore the city by bicycle which is available for rent at the hotel for EUR 15 (I think) including insurance.

Room Tip: Perhaps ask them for a room that has a modernized bathrooms

Lovely hotel. Room was large, clean and decorated beautifully. Staff were extremely helpful, especially the bar staff that made the most amazing cocktails (try the Sebastian). Lovely garden with a relaxing atmosphere, perfect for putting your feet up drinking a glass of wine and chatting with friends. I would most definitely recommend The Toren!

My husband and I spent a week at The Toren in June on our first visit to Amsterdam and loved the hotel. The staff people were invariably warm and helpful and the owners even sent a gift of champagne up to our room on the evening of my birthday! The hotel is located on a charming canal and is in a leafy and quiet neighborhood near the Anne Frank house. We found the location very convenient, with tram stops nearby to help us get to the museums and some of the farther-out areas.
The hotel itself has a main building and an annex--another canal house a few doors down. The decor is a bit odd--lots of dark red and black, including an onyx chandelier in our room that reminded me of Victorian mourning jewelry. But for all that, our room was attractive and very comfortable with a very nice bathroom and--best of all--a Nespresso machine in the room which allowed us to make our own very good coffee (no charge). The breakfast room offers an impressive spread every morning--fresh fruit and juices, yogurt, eggs, bacon, sausage, smoked salmon, cheeses, and more. The breakfasts are on the pricey side (though not more than is common in European hotels) but they really set you up for a day of sightseeing.
In short, I would absolutely stay at The Toren again and recommend it highly.

It is in the part of Amsterdam that locals visit to dine out yet still close enough to touristy areas. Around the corner from both anne frank house and canal tours which I highly recommend. The Toren gives you individualized service and I really felt as if I were the only guest at the hotel at times because of this superior customer service! Our room happened to be very small but we made it work. The room and bathroom are decades apart in terms of updates which makes it a very unique environment. I will more than likely stay here again. Breakfast overlooking canal, in a tranquil environment. Enjoyed our two night stay here very much.

Room Tip: Ask for a canal view if you can we had garden view which was really a brick wall but still a cozy ro...

This is the ideal boutique hotel. It truly deserves the awards it received. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Pros:
Excellent location
Very helpful and cordial staff
Clean and well designed rooms with plenty of natural day light.
Bike hire facility at the hotel which was very handy.
Small but very utilitarian bathrooms.
Comfortable bedding.

Cons:
Not many.

I booked one of the small single rooms. B/c it was very small, they contacted me immediately upon booking and offered me a free upgrade if available on the day. However, there was no other rooms available on the day, so they offered me a 10% discount and free buffet breakfast. Room was small, but I was aware of that before I confirmed the booking. It still had everything I needed. The chocolates and strawberries on arrival were lovely. The staff at the desk were very helpful. Excellent hotel and would definately consider staying there again.
