“We stayed in the Garden Cottage and loved it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2011

The room is a little small by American standards, but big enough for two. The bed is really comfortable and the steam shower is great once you figure out how to work it. The room shares a courtyard with the hotel on one side and the owners' residence on the other with each having its own seating area. I suppose it could get loud out there, but we didn't have any noise issues. The only downside to the room was that the wi-fi signal was so weak that I had to go to the bar to get online with my phone. The bar is pretty cool (very purple) and has a decent breakfast for 12 euros. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The hotel is on a relatively quiet street, but just minutes from all of the fun stuff.

We absolutely enjoyed our stay in The Toren. Their service is so warm and welcoming which is not common in the Amsterdam Hotels. About the decor one can have a discussion, but the beds were very comfy and the garden is a lovely place to have a coffee or a glass of wine. The location is perfect, and bikes can be hired around the corner. There are also some good restaurants nearby. Their breakfast for 12 Euro pp is above standard, and the staff is looking after all your needs. I agree that an update of the decoration in at least our room is needed but overall it was a perfect hotel and we enjoyed it very much.

After viewing the photos of this hotel on the Internet, we were very much looking forward to staying at this hotel. We were thrilled with the opulent decor in the main building's lobby and bar. However, things went quickly downhill once we were shown our room in the annex building several doors down. Room 422 is small, even by European standards and has one window overlooking an inner space (not really a courtyard) and water pipes. The walls are blood red, and the room is dark and depressing. We have trouble closing the door each day because it catches on the bedspread. The AC has been quirky, and we sweltered through our first night here even after having a staff member attend to it. I feel as though I am staying in one of the less expensive European hotels that I used to visit in my student days. That being said, the hotel is in a very convenient location, and the staff is absolutely outstanding. Other than our room, this hotel is wonderful.

Room Tip: Avoid the annex!

What a lovely find. We were in the annex building in a double room that had a lovely little patio that was shared by 2 rooms (we were the only ones who used it while we were there). The red and purple decor was like stepping back 100 years ago albeit with a hot tub, free wi-fi and flat screen TV. Not terribly large but very comfortable. The staff could not be more accommodating and gave us a list of their favortie restaurants. We had them make reservations at a few and they were great. The location is just around the corner from the Anne Frank House (get tickets in advance on line by the way and avoid the block long lines to get in). The bar is lovely and perfect for a pre or apres dinner cocktail. I would absolutely stay here again.

Just wanted to say thank you to all at the Toren.

My wife and I found ourselves in Amsterdam a couple of months ago and couldn’t find a hotel. After ringing ten hotels including a most unhelpful Ibis who kept putting us on hold on an English mobile we found the Toren. I said to my wife, we’ll do a drive by and if we don’t like the look of the place we’d move on. We loved it. We’re a pair of 50 somethings who still think and sometimes act as though we’re in our 20’s. The staff helped us park our car in a secure pound as we had valuables on board, the barman, who’s name I forget was such a nice guy, helpful in everyway and totally in touch with our thoughts. We eat out on his recommendations and had a fabulous meal and stay. All good. The guys and girls at reception were spot on – friendly, helpful, relaxed and happy. So nice to see in todays life. They all made us feel really comfortable and “special”
It's Boutique and beautiful. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Beautiful small boutique hotel, with warm colours, chandeliers, velvet, comfy beds, excellent breakfast choice reasonably priced, €12. Great service, good location, 5 mins walk to Dam square, 15 mins to Leidesplein. Quiet canal location. Charming bar and outdoor garden and lounge furniture in the back. This hotel has soul, and wipes your stress away! Simply one of my absolute favours, will return!

We were fortunate enough to spend 4 days at The Toren - we booked the Royal Suite and were certainly not disappointed as was extremely classy indeed.....thoroughly recommend this room for romance!
We were warmly welcomed by the professional and friendly staff, from Marina on reception who was so informative and helpful, along with the guys at the bar, Sebastion, Gehr & Dirk, who helped make our stay so much more enjoyable and relaxing.
We'll be back at this amazing hotel for sure!
