“Beautiful hotel in perfect location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2012

We stayed here for New Years Eve and have to say we were not disappointed. This hotel is in a lovely location, in a quiet street just out of the hustle and bustle but every district is still easily accessible by tram (but we preferred to walk). We upgraded our room before we arrived as it seemed from reviews that these rooms were larger and had all important tea and coffee facilities! We even had our own exclusive entrance which made coming in at night much easier as we had a swipe card.

The decor in the rooms was stylish and cosy and I felt very at home in this hotel. An excellent attention to detail as well as comfortable beds made our stay very pleasurable and this haven was exactly what we needed after a tiring day exploring the city.

I would whole heartedly recommend this hotel to anyone, you will not be disappointed. Everything from the staff, the room and the location was just perfect. Thank you to all the staff for making us feel so welcome.

We hope to stay at the Mercure again very soon and maybe even stay in room 108 again!

I stayed in a triple room for two nights. The hotel looks nice and is very well located, most attractions are on walking distance. The breakfast was perfect for me, plenty of healthy choices. The only disadvantage was that the hotel was rather noisy on the second night. There is also no double glass so there might be noise from the street. However, I slept very well because of the great beds!

Good location and very pleasant smallish hotel built around a courtyard. We used it as a base only for sightseeing and dining out.
Small criticisms:
Soulless bar.
Expensive buffet breakfast. We only had this once and it was pretty ordinary.
Not very powerful shower.
However we not hesitate to use again.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2012

Let me start by saying that I normally stay in 4 and 5 star hotels, but the group I was traveling with was more the 2 to 3 start bunch, so we compromised at 3 stars. We booked a triple (3 single beds) and were given the keys to a 2nd foor room with 4 single beds. 4 beds were way too crowded for the room, but we managed by using one of the beds to hold our luggage, as there was no where else in the room/closet to put them - and we traveled with carry on size luggage. Below are my reflections on the items that matter to me when traveling:
(1) Comfortable, clean, beds. Mecure gets a 5 star here. The beds were firm, the linens were clean and the style - white duvet was modern and up to date
(2) Room furnishings. Mecure gets a 2 star here. Lights switches didn't match the sockets, no alarm clock, and furniture was old and hap hazzard. e.g. we had a rocking chair in a room, which was odd since that was the only place we could put something down on the floor
(3) Bathroom. Mecure gets a 2 star here. The bathroom could only support one person as the shower did not have a curtain or door and the stahl was very tiny. No problems with hot water. Additionally, the toilet was located in the bathroom (as opposed to our other hotels with had sink/toilet in another room), which made it slow in the mornings as only one person could use at a time. Additionally they only provided one tiny bar of soap and one shampoo, and by the time the first person had finished showering, the soap had completely disintegrated. For those who use face cloths, they did not provide them.
(4) Location. Mecure gets a 3 star. Located on a tiny side street (which is hard to find upon your first time to the hotel), one would think it would be quiet. Unfortunately not. There is a school on one side and the garbage trucks run the two perpendicular streets and were extremly loud upon pick up on Friday morning. Lastly, there is contruction going on at the other side of the hotel, so if you are close to a light sleeper, do not stay at this property. However, the location wasn't bad in terms of proximity to things we wanted to visit.
(5) Transportation. Mecure gets a 4 star. From the airport, this property is easily accessible by 3 means of transportation: Taxi 45 Euro, Connexxtion Bus 16 Euro (easy!) or train/tram (16, 24, 25 - 5th stop to Wetering). For walking purposes it's a 10 minute walk to the museum district, or 20 minutes to the old city. You may also take the tram lines which are fairly easy to navigate, once you have your "card". Plenty of restaurants are close
(6) Service. Mecure gets a 3 star. There was always one staff person at the desk, so typically you had to wait your turn. They were friendly and courteous, althought they certainly didn't go out of their way. There is no concierge, so you're limited to the map they provided and the word of the staff.
(7) Price. Mecure gets a 2 star. Under normal circumstances, we overpaid for our room. However, we booked in October for a December Xmas stay, so figured we had paid more to support the holiday week. Would have given it another star if the rates weren't off from what was received.
(8) Food. We never ate breakfast at the hotel, but they did offer breakfast for 20 euros per person.
Overall this property fits the description on their website.

Have just returned from a great stay at this hotel. Arrived early at the hotel and our room was not ready. Reception kindly looked after our luggage whilst we went to explore the area. The hotel is set just off the main city centre but all areas of interest are within walking distance.
We were impressed with our room. Very comfortable bed and good shower.
Breakfast, which was included in our package price, was exceptional. Freshly squeezed orange juice, cereals, cheeses, hams, pates, fresh fruit, all kinds of fresh bread as well as scrambled eggs and bacon. You could also order freshly cooked fried eggs if you preferred.
Being English, I do like tea/coffee facilities in the room which are not provided. However, you could book this facility for 5 Euros a day, which is very good value when a cup of coffee averages 3 Euros in local cafes.
Overall, a great stay in a very comfortable hotel with friendly staff. Would definitely stay again if returning to Amsterdam.

Very nice place, would stay there again. Near museums and away from the hoards; short walk to Rembrandplein, tons of restaurants (of note, l'Express on Utrechtstraat). Also a neat and traditional steakhouse down the street (Piet de Leeuw ... reserve ahead, otherwise it's communal tables).

The hotel is very good, the staff very friendly. Location is quite good. Not gobsmacked in the city, but close to all of attractions. We were able to checked in before the say-so checking time, and we were asked whether we would like to leave our luggage after we checked out. The bed is AMAZING, the pillows were so nice, it made me want to throw pillows I have at home and get one that is exactly like the ones at the hotel. TV has zillions of channel (maybe not zillions, but it seems like never ending channels).

BUT... I requested when I booked that we would like 1 double bed and 1 single, instead I got 3 singles. When asked how come we got singles bed, they nonchalantly that the particular room has been given away, so O well, what can we do kinda attitude. All good, I'm not fussy.

Next, we were advised that wifi is available entire hotel. We didn't get it in our room, maybe because our room was kinda underground, so the wifi doesn't get to our area. The most disturbing part is, when I went to shower, there are A LOT of dead bugs on the floor. It seems that (maybe) the room has been unoccupied for sometime and hasn't been clean again when we get there.

Overall a good stay, if only there are no bugs on the bathroom floor...

Room Tip: Get the higher up room, so wifi can reach your room..
