“Next to the flower market”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

Good location by the flower market and near several tram stops. Excellent breakfast (charged separately). Dated decor, but clean and comfortable hotel. Allowed us to check in early, which was appreciated.

The hotel is situated in a good central location. However, the rooms are very small and dated, the interior design is nauseating, but worst of all are the beds, they are hard and very uncomfortable. Out of a group of 6, only 1 said the bed was "fine".

We all had problems with the TV's, they froze or didn't get signal. They are the old design before LCD/Plasma TV's were invented.

The bathroom is small, with a bath/shower, the light is very poor, especially when you close the curtain to shower. Shower is powerful, although difficult to get the temperature just right.

Worst of all, the hotel has a small road/path running underneath it. Every night there is noise from drunk teenagers shouting, swearing and riding their mopeds. The noise would continue from 11pm - 4am. Even with the windows firmly closed, our sleep was all impacted.

The hotel dismissed our concerns, and refused to move us until the next morning. The guy just laughed and argued when we commented about the noise. Generally the staff were friendly and helpful.

One of the beds was broken and hence on a slant, to their credit they fixed it straight away. They also fixed one of the TV's. The smoking room was without an ashtray, which had to be requested twice before it was brought.

Overall I would not recommend this hotel, I think a score of a 2.5/5 is fair. This hotel is nowhere near the standard of an English 4 star hotel.

Good location for touring the town by day and excellent for nightlife. Next to the flower market and near cafes bars and restaurants.

Comfy bed nice views. Clear room.. functional.

Good value and well worth it for a fun weekend away.

NH Carlton is a fantastic hotel for its location. Staff always helpful and rooms pretty large for Amsterdam hotel. Don't forget youhave to pay City tax at the end of your stay. It is the same in any Amsterdam hotel. It isn't much though and you will have a great time and stay in the hotel and Amsterdam itself. It is picture perfect at Christmas time.

We stayed here for the last leg of our Globus Tour and stayed on a few extra days. While it was a fair distance from central station, it was still reasonably well located in old Amsterdam and most attractions in walking distance. the rooms are small but well appointed. Breakfast was excellent with a revolving smorgasbord of choices each morning. The free wi fi didn't always work in our rooms, but it always worked in the foyer. You had to be careful stepping out onto the street. There is no space between the revolving door in the main entrance and the busy street outside. The bikes never give way to pedestrians and the revolving door doesn't stop to allow you to wait for the bikes to pass. Nearly got run over a few times.

Room Tip: Watch the pavement as you step out of the revolving door otherwise you risk being run over by a bike...

I stayed in this hotel for one week and enjoyed the city centre. This is situated at most happening place of Amsterdam. Surrounded by restaurants, cafes and other attractions. Everything is at walking distance. The rooms are quite comfortable and clean. The service is also appreciable. So you can enjoy your stay in Amsterdam if you stay here. Surely I did.

I had not booked a hotel in Amsterdam prior to my arrival and one of my friends made this booking for me on an urgent basis. I didnt have any choice but to to stay at this place. At best I can just describe it as OK with maybe the location being its only +ve part.
