In the centre of the canal ring. Decent sized, clean room with comfy beds. Grand hotel reception. Didn't try the food, plenty enough to eat out in many nice places in the area. Smoking rooms available

The positives of this hotel are the great location for galleries/museums etc, friendly and helpful receptionists and a really good all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast with lots of choice - unless you are leaving before 7.30 am. If so, breakfast is on a tiny trolley in reception between 6.30 and 7.00am and apart from drinks, only had croissants, apples and oranges on offer. No plates or knives so you have to stand there trying to put jam on croissants in mid-air with a tiny wooden spatula. I expected better service than this, and it's very poor value given that we had paid for 3 nights B & B. I appreciate that an early hours cooked breakfast can't be provided, but more choice e.g. bread rolls, slices of cheese/cold meat would be good. Better still if they provided a table in the restaurant with the same selection of cold food, sliced fruit and cereals etc that is provided for the buffet t, so that guests could have a decent breakfast before they left. The room itself was clean and comfortable, but the bathroom was a bit whiffy (other reviewers have said this too), and the button to direct water to the shower head had seized up, so water came out of the bathtap too. Not a big problem in itself, but a sign that maintenance isn't that good. As chain hotels go it isn't great value for money, and it certainly doesn't rate as 4 star in my book.

The hotel is well-located on the Muntplein, within easy walking distance of most of the main sites in Amsterdam (particularly Bloemenmarket but also Dam Square and De Wallen). However, we were disappointed with a few key aspects of the hotel. First, the staff were generally rather unhelpful, and gave off the impression that they were too busy to deal with our requests. When we checked in, for instance, we were not even acknowledged for a long time despite the lobby being rather quiet. All of our subsequent encounters with reception continued this trend.

The room was very small and more pertinently the bathroom smelled strongly of stale urine. When we asked reception to check this out, they waited for over an hour and a half to send somebody up, during which time we had contacted them a further time. On the positive side, they did give us a better room with a great view of the Muntplein, although this room, too, had a mild urine smell. The bedroom was otherwise well-maintained and comfortable.

On checking out, the receptionist tried to hurry us off and was rather unfriendly and patronising, when we had reasonable requests to make about booking the airport transfer service and asking the hotel to look after our bags before our evening flight.

Overall I am surprised that this is a 4* hotel, having visited many superior 3* hotels in other cities. The 20 euros demanded for an ordinary-sounding continental breakfast is laughable (we passed on this offer), and I would not recommend the hotel based on the staff and the smelly bathrooms.

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing the Muntplein for a great view!

Not too much to comment, just to say staff were very pleasant and helpful, reception area fairly smart, breakfast pretty good but rooms and corridors really need renovating. The furniture in our room was distinctly 70's in style and the chairs fake leather covers were chipped. If I'd been on a romantic weekend, I would have been really disappointed. As it was, it was 'okay'.

I booked this as a secret hotel through lastminute - and having booked one of these before, I did not have particularly high expectations. The décor is very tired and our room although serviceable and comfortable was decidedly dated. At some point in the past it had been a smoking room and although that may have been some years ago, the smell hadn't quite gone..but maybe that is because I am an anti-smoking non-smoker! There wasn't even a flat screen TV - however, we hadn't gone to Amsterdam to watch TV so this didn't bother us! There were Tea and Coffee making facilities in the room - a pleasant surprise! (How British!) Unusually, the bathroom included a sponge amongst the slightly garish toiletries!

The huge plus to this hotel is its location - and really helpful staff.

I stayed here with my pre-teenager and we found that we could walk to most places from the hotel. If you flag, the hotel is on 3 tram routes. There is the floating market round the corner and quaint shopping streets and plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby. We are not big breakfast eaters so got a few items from the local supermarket for breakfast and stored them in the fridge in the room. This was economical and convenient. There is a restaurant on the ground floor - which was very, very limited in menu and although perfectly tasty, pretty low quality. The waiters were absolutely charming though and after a long journey, it did the job for one evening meal and was pretty cheap.

The staff were very helpful and printed out our boarding passes which we were able to download from the PC in reception. They were most kind and helpful and really made the experience!

I got this very cheaply and so it was good value - I think that if I had paid full price I would have been disappointed.

Room Tip: Ask for non-smoking - and for a room that has never been a smoking room!

Recently I've stayed at this hotel for 2 nights because of the good price and location. I've stayed in hotels from the same Spanish chain (NH), and they are all modern and clean, but the first impression about this one is dirtiness, maybe is not dirty at all but the furniture is so old fashion and shabby that you just want to run away.
Beds look reluctantly clean, but be careful, because next morning I woke up with bed bugs bites. Amsterdam hotels are overpriced but I'm sure you can get a better place to stay in.
I think NH should definitely renovate the dated rooms.
This was my experience I won't came back til the hotel has been completely renovated.
