I just got back from a one night stay at the Hilton in Amsterdam. It was a 25 euro ride from the Airport--only took about 10 or 15 minutes.
The hotel is definitely swish. Very business-y. Beautiful lobby. I was a bit peeved because I booked a non-smoking room on Expedia and when I checked in at 8 p.m., I was informed that they only has smoking rooms available. Luckily, besides for a faint whiff of stale smoke from the pillows, you couldn't really tell.
The hotel has wireless Internet, but it cost something like 25 euros for 24 hours. I think this is amusing because there are lesser hotels offering free wireless. And there's always the option of me wandering the streets with my laptop, looking for an unsecured spot.
The room was really nice and modern and clean. The bed linens were very crisp, with none of those gross hotel bedspreads they put on the beds in the US. The bed was very comfortable and did not feel like it had been slept in by 20 million people before me.
I ordered the green thai curry from room service--there are not many restaurants in the area in walking distance--and it was actually really good. Only set me back 31 euros. :(
No wine in the minibar. Just beer, cokes, and liquor.
Bathroom was spotless with all the usual amenities. I'm not a huge fan of the shampoo in a tube stuff though; I wish they'd upgrade. You know they just refill those.
I then took a taxi over to the office park that's close to the football stadium and ING. I think this cost me about 20 euro.
All in all, very comfy, clean, modern, normal. Not aching with character, but there are worse things. I definitely would vote for this as a business hotel as opposed to a tourist hotel because I don't think it's very central.
