“Great Location, Good Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed today NEW

Reading the reviews of the Hilton Amsterdam my expectations were admittedly high. While the overall experience was very good (per the four stars) it was far from a superb hotel. Highlights for the facility include its great location – outside the chaos of the tourist district, close to convenient tram stops, walking distance to key museums and beautiful vistas over a canal. The executive lounge was a fabulous plus, providing a nice breakfast and wonderful evening cocktails and snacks. Our room was comfortable and spacious (though it was a Jr Suite). However, there were some key gaps. The furnishings and fitness center were both dated. The fitness center was also a shared center resulting in considerable crowds at peak times (like morning). The biggest disappointment was the inconsistency of housekeeping. The first night we were there housekeeping knocked on the door at 10pm for turn-down. They returned at 8am on Saturday morning to make up the room. Sunday we returned to the room at 430pm and it had not been made-up. Consistency of service. Also, it was disappointing to find that laundry service is not available on Sunday.

So, very nice hotel in a wonderful location. But significant work to be done before reaching the exceptional category.

Room Tip: Ask for a canal view!

First visit to this Amsterdam Hilton hotel and I would definitely stay again now I know where this hotel is. More central hotels, mostly have smaller rooms and are in noisier area and the Hilton location is still convenient for tourist activities.

I really enjoyed my 2night stay, a quiet room and very peaceful location, I had a large, low floor end of corridor Junior Suite with Canal view.
Long double length full height windows overlooking the canal below which made room lovely and light during the day.

Very large room with usual comfy Hilton bed/mattress along with large open area and large sofa seating (not just a 2-3 seater), along with expected work desk/chair , minibar, safe, tea/coffee tray and a TV (just BBC1/2 if from UK, no ITV channel(s) here).

All encountered staff were helpful, polite smiling and friendly from doorman, checkin/reception, concierge, restaurant and lounge staff, as expected in a good hotel.

Hotel has 10floors with 10th floor having just the Club Lounge, and the evening food/nibbles was very nice, although the same both days of my stay.

Had hotel breakfast in ground floor restaurant, extremely busy on a weekend usual upnarket hotel breakfast choices, and although no table menus, one can order egg choices (omelet, benedict etc) through a waitress. You can also ask waitresses for nicer cappucino over standard filter coffee provided by default. I can't comment on lunch or evening food offerings as I ate out
(The lounge breakfast had most of the things I needed but not eggs cooked order. )

Center of town very easy to reach, 300m walk over bridge by the Hilton and 16 tram which runs to about 07:00-00:30. Museumplein is even nearer, just 5minutes/2 tram stops.
If you have light luggage you can even get from same general stops, the red 197 bus that takes less than 30minutes to/from Schiphol airport for 5euro instead of a taxi.

Only one slight negative....
wifi seemed slow despite a voucher code for premium speed. Hotel has new setup and does not seem to allow one to select premium speed using name/room-number as one usually does, so used my NL 4g internet contract instead for working.

Room Tip: Try for canal view rooms

The hotel is nicely located in a quiet area and a short 10 minute walk to a nice park, a further 10 minutes to the outskirts of the centre. Rooms are modern and well presented; the only downside being the lighting was very dark, even with all lights on. I found it slightly annoying having to wait for the lifts (there being no readily accessible stairs for guests to use instead). Wifi reception was intermittent in the room and occasionally poor. I would, however, certainly stay again.

I thought that this was a good hotel, but there is nothing that unique about it apart from being the hotel where John Lennon and Yoko did a love-in. The hotel is a nice business style Hilton. The bed is quite large and comfortable and there is plenty of natural light that comes into the hotel via the large windows. Found the late night in-room dining options a little bit limiting and the breakfast in the morning quite spendy for what you get. Good hotel if you are coming to Amsterdam for business, but a bit far removed from the centre so not as useful if you are planning to tour around.

Staff was very friendly upon check-in and gave us a king sized room even though our online booking wrongly stated we should have a twin room. Once we got upstairs we were blown away by the view of the city. The bed was a bit hard for my liking, but that's a personal preference. The room was spacious had all the comforts you could ask for. It's a 2 minute walk from the 16 tram line which goes straight into the heart of the city. We liked being away from the business of the city so it was perfect for us.

A few negative comments: The room decor was a bit dated with odd swipes of white paint in the corners of the room. As mentioned above, beds hard for me and if you want to be in the heart of the action this is definitely not the place for you. Also, no free Wi-Fi in the rooms which was a bit of a pain.

All in all, great stay!

This is an excellent 4 star hotel, delivering a first class product. It is a 10-15 minute tram ride (number 16 tram) from main railway station, in a quiet residential location. Therefore very peaceful but not in the midst of busy, bustling city center if this is what you want.
Staff are exceptionally good. Breakfast selection and staff excellent under the direction of Tiziana; and all the waitresses are very attentive. Large fresh buffet selection available as well as cooked- to- order, all chef cooked, and it shows. Had access to Executive Lounge on 10th floor. Superb skyline views. Canapes and drinks available. This is not Hilton Berlin lounge where it was an outstanding food selection but overall fine, and once again attentive service, clean and pleasant. Rooms overlooking the canal more interesting IMO.
Rooms are a good size and very clean. Windows can open giving welcome relief from air conditioning and central heating.
Easy access to Concert hall and Rijksmuseum. Would recommend...

Indeed, Hilton Amsterdam is located in the upscale neighborhood ‘Oud-Zuid’, only 10-15 minutes removed from the city centre by tram, and very nearby the museum district. ‘Museumplein’ is where the famous museums the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and the concert hall are located.

We already look forward to welcoming you back!

Perfect everything... service, rooms, quality of food and beverages was fantastic. First night of honeymoon with my wife was great. Location seems very business although an Uber is 7 Euros from central station or any other restaurant or cool place (heineken brewery/van gough). Awesome breakfast with free flowing mamosas and I recommend getting the executive suites for executive lounge access where you can get free breakfast and evening drinks (help yourself to as much as you please which is great).
