“Great hotel away from the hustle and bustle of the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

Stayed at the Hilton Amsterdam Apollolaan for 9 days over the December holidays. Hotel is located in the suburbs, perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, but still within walking distance to the Concert Hall as well as the Museum and Fashion Districts, approximately 10-15 minutes and a quick walk to the public transport. Property was well-maintained; canal view room was clean and featured a panoramic view of the city from the 7th floor, friendly and professional Front Desk staff, exceptional service delivery from the restaurant staff during breakfast, prompt response to guest requests via telephone and the Concierge staff was helpful. However, Internet was chargeable in the room (complimentary in the Lobby with access code), daily Housekeeping services were inconsistent and luggage rack was not provided. Nonetheless, loved the turndown amenities i.e. Christmas goodies along with a thoughtful gift and personalized card from the Guest Services Manager on the night prior to my departure.

Room Tip: Canal or city view rooms

I recently stayed at the Hilton Amsterdam on business.

The check-in was a little slow as there were 4 people in the queue and only one person on the desk. However, a second person eventually arrived and I was soon on my way.

My room was large and spacious, with a view of the suburbs ( rather than the canal ). There was a flat screen TV, mini-bar, tea/coffee making facilities ( with plenty of tea bags and UHT milk ), a work desk, armchair and table, iron and ironing board and a very comfortable bed. Also, the windows could be opened.

The bathroom was bright and with all the usual accessories. I discovered that I had forgot to bring my razor, but fortunately I was able to get to a complementary plastic one from reception.

We had dinner one night in Roberto’s, the Italian restaurant, which I have separately reviewed.

The hotel bar was also pleasant, with very attentive staff.

The hotel is situated a little way from the centre of Amsterdam. However, the taxi to Leidseplein took less than 10 minutes and cost less than 15 euros.

In summary, the Hilton Amsterdam is a very good hotel for business and I recommend it.

Dear Fatbear 2000,

Thank you for taking the time to write two reviews, one of Hilton Amsterdam and one of Roberto’s Restaurant.

We are glad to hear that you found our amenities to your liking and the bed to be very comfortable. We are also pleased that our Team Members from the hotel bar were attentive and that we were able to help when you forgot your razor.

Indeed as you mention, the hotel is located a little way from the centre of Amsterdam in the ‘Oud-Zuid’ neighbourhood but you can easily reach the centre by taxi or tram.

We hope to welcome you back to Hilton Amsterdam in the near future.

Yours sincerely,

Roberto Payer

We stayed for 3 nights to see in the new year and had the pre booked 7 course dinner. The hotel rooms were clean, spacious and offered panoramic views albeit over some pretty standard buildings. Unfortunately, although we informed the hotel of my disability I stayed in a room where my wheelchair could not fit through the bathroom door, the bath and toilet area was inaccessible for the entire stay. I was offered the use of the only disabled room for 1 shower only. Fortunately for me, I had no need of the toilet during my stay (fitted with a bag). My lovely son had to pick me up like a baby and carry me to their bath which was a little better than mine then take me out again, poor love. Never again. The New Year's Eve meal was sumptuous and when I explained I did not eat veal, it was substituted with a scrumptious steak, perfectly cooked. After the meal, feeling well stuffed we were ushered to the 5th floor to view the fireworks. We were greeted by an intimately lit room with good party music so a little jigging soon put the cold temperature to flight. I and my 2 young grandsons as well as their parents were very much looking forward to the fireworks display. The hour soon disappeared and after the mandatory countdown we had entered a new year. Oh! The fireworks display? that was other nearby residents doing their thing the hotel just poached the view. However, the great view, unless you was in a wheelchair or around that heigh, meant you would possibly have a great vantage point. For me and my 9 year old grandson we saw the huddled backs of other guests but could only bask in their excitement imagining what they could see. In the end the little tyke cheated because his father put him on his shoulders leaving me to listen to his excited cries. The staff were very accommodating and the hotel was fine but never for the disabled.

Room Tip: If you are disabled just don't

Stayed in the Hilton Amsterdam for 3 nights in September 2013. This is your typical classic Hilton hotel. The rooms are very spacious, bath room with bath tub and a nice view from the room due to large windows in the room. Stayed here on a few warm summer days and airco worked well. Hotel was clean and classy. Enjoyed my stay thanks to the helpful and friendly staff. Experienced 1 noisy night due to a wedding party 5 floors down, but got compensated for that. Definitely a hotel I would recommend.

Just returned from a 3 night stay here. I choose this hotel as it was where John Lennon had his Peace Love-In. The service was good but the hotel doesn't look like it's had much of an up-date since John and Yoko were there in the 70s.

On arrival it seems miles from anywhere but once you've got your bearings and worked out the trams it's not too bad. We were located on the 6th floor with a fantastic view of the city and canal. The windows are huge and we watched the New Year's Eve fireworks from here in the warm and dry which lasted for hours! We hadn't planned on doing this beforehand but it worked out so well and made up all the walking we had to do. Love Amsterdam and the people and will definitely visit again but next time will choose a hotel in a more central location.

Dear nb333,

We would like to thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to write a review of Hilton Amsterdam.

We are delighted to hear you enjoyed the view over the city and enjoyed the spectacular fireworks that take place all over the city for the New Year’s celebrations. We are located within walking distance of nearby highlights such as Museumplein and Vondelpark and have easy access to public transport, which takes 15 minutes to the old city centre. Our concierge would be more than happy to assist you with directions prior to and during your stay.

We regret to read that your stay with the Hilton Amsterdam did not meet your expectations regarding the interior decoration however; all our rooms and hallways were refurbished in 2008/2009 and taste is of course personal.

We hope to welcome you back in the near future.

Yours sincerely,

We stayed 3 nights in December, and will definetely return!
Booke a standard room, but as a Diamond member after som prodding was upgraded to a beautiful Junior Suite with panoramic Canal view. One downside was that the bath had no separate shower and bath, but the combo shower had excellent pressure!
Decent amenities in the bathroom and daily refill of free water bottles, great.
The first morning we were unfortunately awakened by loud children in the room next door (Our room could be connected to this), upon remarking this to the reception they blocked that room for the rest of the weekend, nice work.
The 2nd day was my wife's birthday (I discreetly reminded them upon checkin) and they surprised her with a large boquet of flowers, bottle of Prosecco, strawberries and a small birthday cake, not bad!
Good breakfast with decent eggs and omelettes made to order, as well as pancakes etc., and of course prosecco. The Executive Lounge breakfast was a bit more meager, but the evening spread was great.
I normally do not eat at hotel restaurants, but was pleasantly surprised by their Italian offerings at dinner; particularly the truffled veal tartare as well as seafood pasta.
Gym: Very nice with Personal Trainers standing by to give individual tips, as well as classes in the morning. Great!
For an ideal visit to Amsterdam one might want a hotel located more downtown, however we found the neighborhood to the north of the hotel to be extremely pleasant with high-quality stores and a nice and quiet atmosphere.
Late checkout provided.

Room Tip: Canal view should be a must.
