“Great Hotel & Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

This has to be one of Hilton's best. I am a diamond member and used points for my stay at this hotel. I was given an upgrade to a lovely junior suite with a balcony. They also acknowledged my 40th wedding anniversary by sending to the room a nice bottle of wine, strawberries, and a small cake. Kudos to the staff. No charge for internet at this is one of the perks of my Hilton Honors status. Also had access to the club lounge for breakfast as well as evening snacks and drinks. I was also allowed to have breakfast in the downstairs restaurant. This was a better option as there were more selections to choose from. The hotel is in a quiet exclusive residential area in the southern part of Amsterdam. You have a choice of some nice restaurants in the area. I have reviewed these as well. It is easy to get to the downtown area using the trams. There is access to a number of different tram lines within a short walking distance of the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel and when visiting Amsterdam again, I will definitely stay at the hotel. There is also a very nice bar/lounge on the ground level. Danny Kumar, Head Concierge , as well as other members of the staff were extremely helpful with obtaining tickets to sites as well as making restaurant reservations for us. Extremely competent and friendly staff.

Room Tip: Stay on the Executive level.

You pay for it. You get service and quality. There was a long black hair in the bathroom, which was too small for modern standards. Also a shower curtain is not state of the art. To pay 25 euros for wifi is over the top, even when it has an excellent connection across the hotel. Bar is with a lot of history and although service was slow in the beginning they caught up.

But as said service is professional but I would recommend other hotels in Amsterdam that are cheaper and have the same comfort.

We loved our stay here at the Hilton. The location was excellent. From the airport get the train to Zuid station. From there you get tram 5 heading to Amsterdam Centraal and get off at Apollolaan. Then it's less than 5 min walk to the hotel. The hotel is situated on the canal in a very nice area and there are 3 tram stops within walking distance to get into the centre. You can even walk to most of the sights if you wish but the trams are clean, inexpensive (€21 for a 4 day pass) and reliable.
The hotel itself was great. The staff couldn't help you enough and the rooms were clean and large with a great canalside view of the city. The only reason it doesn't get a 5 star rating is due to a couple of things. One, there is no free wifi in the bedrooms which is a shame as if you needed the internet you had to sit in the lobby. Also, after a long day we ordered room service and were surprised at how expensive it was. We only got a pizza and a cheese toastie but it cost us €45. Think €25 would have been about right but I guess it's to be expected in a 5 star hotel. Apart from this we really enjoyed it and would definitely return.

Room Tip: Try and get a room with a view of the canal/city on a higher floor.

We stayed here as a 'secret hotel deal' on Expedia and we enjoyed our stay very much.
The hotel is located in a leafy residential area to the South of the main city centre, however it is a 5 minute walk to the Apollolan Tram stop and extremely easy to get around Amsterdam on public transport. I would say it is not for people who want an active late night scene but more the family holiday. However the trams do run until just past midnight. Check in was excellent, friendly and efficient and the room was beautiful - large and clean. We had a city view rather than canal - but we still thought the view was lovely - especially at night.

2 very small quibbles; our room was very hot and the air conditioning did not work. This did not bother us too much and we didn't tell reception - so i'm sure they would have changed our rooms if we had asked. Secondly the food and drink is very expensive for 'ordinary' travellers on a budget, i'm sure it's ok with a company expense account! We went out for all food & drinks.

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel and think all Hiltons should aim for the level of service and modernisation seen here. I know there is a new Hilton being built at the airport but until then I will continue staying here when in Amsterdam.

Wanting to book an Easter weekend break, my wife and I opted for Amsterdam, I had been there on numerous prior occasions, but my wife hadn't seen the city for twenty-five years and we had points available, so my wife called Hilton and requested a centrally located hotel.

I had nearly always previously stayed at the Krasnapolsky in Dam Square, so I knew the location well, which caused initial concern when we arrived at Central Station and found that we then needed to transfer to an area called Apollolaan. The sun was shining, so we climbed aboard a tram and enjoyed the scenery.

It transpires that Apollolaan is one of the wealthiest suburbs of Amsterdam, full of huge and impressive residences, but the area is not what we would describe as 'central', with it being a 3.5km walk to Dam Square. Initially, we were upset. However, this review is of the hotel, not the location.

Checking-in was simple and Michael, the duty Manager, listened to our concerns about Hilton's booking office having told us that the hotel was centrally located and immediately looked to make amends. In doing so, he upgraded us to a suite, gave us complimentary internet access for the duration, access to the executive lounge on the 10th floor and offered a taxi ride back to Schipol, so what more could he have done?

As one would imagine, the room was beautiful and other than boasting a 30ft balcony, with views of the city and the canals, the furnishings were comfortable, the internet was lightning fast and everything was immaculately presented, although the bathroom was on the small side!

Breakfast the following day was of the buffet variety and you couldn't want for more choice, although with the hotel full for the weekend, it was evident that they were understaffed, with far too many tables left dirty and us having to wait and ask twice, for coffee and juice. This said, it was Easter weekend?

The executive floor was a tad disappointing, as although drinks, canapés and newspapers, etc, were available, opening times were prescribed and if you chose to enjoy the facilities outside of these, you found your elevator access card inoperative. This aside, a commendation must go to Stefania, one of the hostesses, who couldn't do enough for us in ensuring that we had what we needed?

In essence, location aside, (although we enjoyed the 30min walk to the centre), I cannot fault the hotel, as the staff, facilities, friendliness levels and the overall ambience, were all superb! Perhaps we should have checked the location before booking, (I'll speak to my wife about that), but if you don't want to be right in the very midst of all the hussle, bussle, and not everyone does, I would highly recommend the hotel, even if, regrettably, a swimming pool was absent.

Room Tip: As mentioned, we were upgraded to a suite. However, if you have the good fortune to share the same e...
