“Great hotel in Amsterdam but in a quiet neighborhood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

I have stayed here at least 5 times. alot of times i couldn't get anything in city center and this is the second best choice. it is walkable to the heart of the city but after a nite out it isn't a bad idea to take a taxi back. very cool neighborhood. right on a canal and on a treed street with nice houses. also the hotel made famous by john and yoko. i used to know the suite number but not anymore. has a good restaurant: up to the usual high HIlton standards. also had access to the business lounge on top of the hotel. neat views and free liquor and hors d'ouveres (sp?) .

Dear sae_80816,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of Hilton Amsterdam on Tripadvisor.

We are extremely delighted to read that you enjoy staying at our hotel.

The hotel is indeed located in the exclusive South of Amsterdam with the famous Museumplein as well as very exclusive shopping streets in walking distance. The city centre is easily accessible via tram or a longer walk through the beautiful Vondelpark or Museumplein.

It is a great pleasure to read that you enjoyed the canal view and our Executive Lounge including all amenities. Our hotel is indeed famous for the John & Yoko Suite, which is located on the 7th floor.

Our awarded Roberto’s Restaurant is another highlight of the hotel. The Italian cuisine offers classic dishes but also modern and inspirational dishes with an exclusive wine list.

Thank you for staying at the Hilton Amsterdam while we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Yours Sincerely,

Roberto Payer

Stayed here for one night, and I did receive an upgraded room as a HH gold member. The room I was assigend was a cornersuite with a connecting door to another room. That is the problem! The noise from the other room was unreal. I could actually literally hear the conversations the person in the other room had and every noise he/she made. Couching, laughing, the tv, the alarm the shower, roomservice everything. That should not be the case, in a hotel with this classification. The restaurant is very good, the meeting rooms are good, the location is good, in the vicinity of the exclusive PC hooftstraat in Amsterdam whee you will find all the major designer brands, e.g. Louis Vuitton et cetera.
The executive club room was supposed be the open till 23:00 but when I arrived there at 22:15 there was absolutely nothing available, except some dried out sweating pieces of cheese. Not even a bottle of water or other beverage. One almost empty bottle of wine. Disappointing actually. Service at the reception and in the hotel is very good, although not all staff has a restaurant training probably. For leisure I would not stay here and for business only if I have to. Good hotel, but definitely not focusing on the details that make a stay worthwhile.

Room Tip: No connecting door room, and make sure it is not close to service doors and elevators. Really noisy

The staff are very attentive at this hotel. The rooms are nicely set up and the showers are superb!
Didn't have dinner here. The staff are very helpful and are keen to make your stay as good as it can be, cannot rate this high enough. I stayed in room 815, it overlooked the canal and was fine for me :)

Very good hotel, located in a great area of town - 10 minute tram ride into Dam Sq which was really no hassle at all and perfectly placed for access to and from the airport.
Great service from all staff encountered, spacious room with great canal view and very comfortable bed. Only minor complaint was the adjoining door to the next room, whose occupants were ever so slightly audible through it. Other than that, very, very good

Satyed there for the weekend celebrating my fiancees birthday. Staff were fantastically helpfull on arrival and during our stay. Michael in Reception was ever so helpful, during our arrival. The consierge was also great. He gave us quite a few hekpful tips, on places to eat, places to visit and things to do. Our room had a great view of the canal and was trully amasing. As it is only a couple of miles away from the hassle and bassle of the town centre, we were able to walk everywhere. The Vodelpark is at walking proximity with quite a few little cafeterias on the way there. after the park is the Van gogh Museum and the canal where you can hop on a cruise boat (totally reccommended). Will definitely stay there again.

I've stayed here on business 4 or 5 times in the last two years and always enjoy coming back. The staff are always friendly, courteous and efficient. On the odd stuff up which happens with any hotel, they try hard to make up for it. However, one of the main reasons I keep coming back is for the canal view. Try to get a room facing the canal. The entire back lawn and canal area is very pretty at any time of the day or night and just puts you in a nice frame of mind. I'm looking forward to coming back when it's warmer so I can sit on a deck chair on the lawn next to the canal and watch the sun set. The rooms are spacious (particularly for Europe) and clean, the bed is comfortable, there is virtually no noise from outside your room and the shower has plenty of hot water.

Despite the many good things about this hotel there are a few things you should be aware of. The thermostat in the room has detailed temperature settings, but on mine only two really worked - warm and very warm (I was there 27-30 Nov so close to zero Celcius outside). If it's too warm for you it can be partially solved by asking them to unlock the windows and letting the cold air in. For me, the "cold" setting was fine for sleeping but my colleague felt it was a little warm for him in his room. In warmer months the air-conditioning seemed fine. In-room dining food is also pretty good, but the choice not as large as other 5 star hotels.

For buying any necessities or to grab a bite outside the hotel there is a small village a couple of minutes walk over the canal and a very large park about a 1.5km away for the keen joggers.

The one gripe I have about the hotel is that you need to pay a lot for anything other than the basic cost of the room. Internet is EUR27 (nasty), to use the gym is EUR17.50 (unless you are Silver HHonours) and breakfasts starts at EUR27. I'd prefer them to package it all in like other hotels but I guess it's so you can choose what u want to pay for but I'd rather not let my company know I'm "wasting" EUR17.50 by going to the gym. Times are tough! On the plus side the gym is large with plenty of equipment and not at all crowded.

If you are a light eater for breakfast like me there is a small cafe near the front of the hotel where u can order a fruit plate, sandwiches, croissants, coffee etc. for a lot less money. The guy at the counter can appear a little surly at times but he is quite a pleasant guy.

Room Tip: Anything on the canal side. The view is really nice.
