“Best view in Amsterdam”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2011

Stayed one night following meetings in Amsterdam. Great location along a canal. Had a nice drink and appetizer at the outside bar overlooking the canal. Food was OK. Service was good. I hadclub level access, but do not see the value here and would not chose this again. The club lounge is on the roof and is very small. Time was better spent at the canal level bars or restaurant.

The room was a very good size, particularly for Europe and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel was very clean and very well maintained, and the service was excellent. The hotel is located in a residential area and backs onto a canal, with a cocktail lounge overlooking the spacious lawn and the boats tied up. The breakfast buffet was extensive and varied. Two blocks away on a neighborhood street is an area of shops and restaurants and gallerys tucked into the residential area, and Vondel Park is only two blocks beyond. There are two convenient tram lines downtown within 5 minutes walk, and passes are available at the gift shop. The concierge sells passes to the Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum. This hotel will get repeat business from us.

Amsterdam was the last leg of our European backpacking trip, and Hilton offered the perfect backdrop for us. The elegant hotel is situated in a picturesque and quiet corner of Amsterdam; beautiful neighborhood and canals to walk around, and easy access to public transportation. The staff was professional and friendly, and gave us excellent tips and directions to explore Amsterdam on our own. Their attention to detail was remarkable. We were upgraded to a canal view room since this was our anniversary trip; they even provided complimentary champagne, fruit and an anniversary cake for us during our last day there. That's true exceptional service! Highly recommended for couples or families with children who wants to enjoy the natural beauty of Amsterdam, and yet not too far away from the "action" in the city.

Room Tip: Ask for a canal view room, it's magnificant

A step away from the craziness of Amsterdam city center, lies this quite comfortable hotel with amazing nature surroundings that automatically relaxes you as soon as you get to it.
The cafe in the back overlooking the water and all the nature is just heavenly.

I had a great time there and the staff was very helpful. Rented bikes and went wherever we wanted in a few minutes by bike.

Wifi is very expensive. It should be offered free with the rates charged for the room.

I stay frequently at the Hilton and have found it to be an excellent business hotel. The location is not central but that gives it a calmer, more rustic feeling with the restaurant bar extending out to a lawn along a quiet canal. Rooms are compact but highly functional with high end bedding (the duvet can be stifling if you are a warm sleeper). Executive rooms come complete with a full breakfast in either the 10th floor lounge or the restaurant.

The fitness center is another major positive, particularly by European standards. It is an independent club co-located with the hotel and has vastly more equipment than your normal hotel gym. It can get a little crowded on the aerobic machines but fewer people use the weight equipment. By American standards, the all male trainers seem very "touchy feely" with the female clients but I don't know whether these are the local clients. I certainly would not want my wife being trained quite so attentively!

The restaurant in the hotel is a high end Italian, with high end meaning both high quality and very expensive. It seems to be way over-heated with gas fireplaces going in May and even late summer. Still service is good.

My one beef with this hotel is the daily internet service at Euro 27 per day. This is nearly $40 per day and you have to personally travel to the front desk to sign for it. There really is no excuse for this type of rip-off.

Room Tip: Higher, canal facing, away from the elevators

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2011

I recently travelled to Amsterdam with my wife, 14mth old son, and my in-laws. We stayed in this Hilton as we managed to get a deal offering 1/2 price rooms. The Hotel is beautiful with lovely views over one of the many canals. It is slightly out of the way, about a 10/15 minute tram ride to Dam square, and the tram is a 3 minute walk from the hotel. This suited us fine as we weren't there to party :-)

Our room over looked the canals (think it was a deluxe room?) and was spacious considering we had a cot in it as well. We stayed on a B&B basis and the breakfast didn’t disappoint with plenty of fresh fruit, meats and cheeses (if that’s ur kinda thing), cereals, and a cooked buffet. There was plenty to choose from and all fresh from the kitchen.

Our only problem was the automatically billing mini bar, as we needed to chill milk for our baby’s bottle. There is NO space for extra items and ended up being charged for several drinks which we moved to make space for the milk. These were kindly taken of when we checked out without any questions.

We didn’t use the hotel bar or restaurant and from what we saw (reading the menu) it was expensive.

All in all we had a great trip and would highly recommend a stay here, if the price is right.

Staff – Very friendly and helpful
Accommodation – Clean and fresh and the Hilton Pillow menu always amuses.
Breakfast – Super, plenty of choice and fresh
