“Fun place, good food, kid friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

As Ethiopian food goes this was not the very best- though I see TIme Out rates it the best African food in Amsterdam, I have had better. But it was still really fun- well prepared and presented, food served on the bread with good portions. Really fun kitsch interior with a nice buzz, lots of people there, but still relaxed. What we really appreciated was that the waiter/owner was very friendly and welcoming to us as a family and steered us to items on the menu that we not spicy- so our two kids really enjoyed a fun new experience of eating African food with their hands. So recommended to families (provided you avoid the spicy items).i

“Great food, nice atmosphere, I love this place!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Absolutely delicious and traditional Ethiopian\Eritrean. The menu provided a nice variety of meat and vegetarian dishes at an incredibly reasonable price around 12 euros. Very friendly owner and staff helps you to choose if you eat Afrikaans meal the first time.. Abyssinia has his own beer from Harar Brewery imported from Ethiopia, which we tried and wanted to taste their banana beer (Mongozo) so they offered us one each for free to take home.

“Fun and delicious food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

Took our two teenagers here and had a great time. Delicious and varied food all served on a huge platter with African bread for scooping. Great service and a warm welcome. A real treat!

“One of my favourite places in Amsterdam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

Come here relatively often, given that we live in the neighbourhood, and always bring guests here as well. Very relaxed atmosphere, and the food is pretty good as far as I'm concerned. If there is a group of you, order the big plate with everything - one plate per 4 people is generally a good way to go. I reckon this place is pretty good value for money overall, and always enjoy the mix of locals and tourists that seem to find their way here.
