I absolutely LOVE this hotel! It's at such a good location so you really don't have to worry about spending anything on public transportation and it's ridiculously close to the Amsterdam Dam Square and the Centraal Station. If you're planning to get on the Hop on Hop off bus, there's a shop to get your tickets just a few doors away from the hotel. The staff are super friendly and will help you in anyway they possibly can. My friend and I were put on the 3rd floor and it was beauttttifulll! The bed and the pillows are so comfortable, you'd think you were in a Hilton. Clean and tidy, this place is for everyone! I can't sing their praises enough so don't hesitate in booking this place for your stay in Amsterdam. I'd go again to Amsterdam JUST for this hotel to be perfectly honest!

We passed with my wife 3 night there, people are charming and smiling. Our room was definitely perfect value for money with a super bed and a cool shower! And to be honest we didn't listen a noise from the street in all our time there. We know that next time we will come back to the exchange!

This hotel has a great location! It's a 5 minute walk from the Amsterdam Central Train station, 2 minutes to Dam Square, 1 minute to the main shopping street, 10 minutes to the Anne Frank House, 12 minutes to the Van Gogh museum and Rijksmuseum. And the best fries in Amsterdam are about 4 doors down from the hotel. You really can't ask for a better location.

The hotel is very easy to miss. It's a tiny door between the Stock coffee shop and a pizza place. Walk down the tiny hallway (about 10 feet) and you'll come to a person in a booth. This is the front desk. Don't let that fool you, the people at the front desk were very nice and helpful.

The good-
the location really is the best
we paid for 4 star rooms and got upgraded to the 5 star rooms upon check in
the beds are soooooo amazingly comfortable, it's like sleeping in a cloud
rooms 619 and 622 were a very good size, especially for Europe
Bathrooms are large, with a large shower
This might be a turn off for some, but I really enjoyed how each room is themed and quirky decorated. We stayed in the Camera Obscura room while my family stayed in the Recycled room (which looks like an inside out mattress)
The elevators come quite quickly when called
In room nespresso machines
Room 619 has a huge outdoor balcony (with a table and chairs) with a great view. 622 has a great view too, but no balcony.

The not good/not bad -
There are no closets in the rooms we stayed in (622 and 619). There is a bar tucked into the corner to hang your clothes, but no actual closet or wardrobe.
The hotel isn't exceptionally loud, but it's not quiet either. The noise level is average.

The bad-
the wifi is slow and sometimes cuts out and doesn't work

Overall this is a great, funky design hotel (eg, not traditional, so don't expect a Hilton here!) in a fantastic location.

Bottom line- I would highly recommend and stay here again.

Thank you for your review. It is correct we have a small entrance, it used to be an alley between two buildings. We are happy our staff was nice and helpful. Thank you for pointing out the problems you experienced with the wifi connection, we will take a look at that.We hope to see yuo back in 2015. Kind regards, Hotel The Exchange Team

As for any other cities that are packed with tourists, finding a decent place for a low price is virtually impossible.

I had the fortune to visit this hotel and I highly recommend it. I was on the 7th floor and had a good size room, nicely decorated with a unique style. Both the room and the bathroom were clean and tidy. The room featured a nespresso coffee machine ( I could not live without in the morning), bath ropes, a safe and a hair drier. The bed was super comfortable and I could not hear any noises coming from the street. From my private balcony I could see Amsterdam from the top. The location is great – at a short walk you reach virtually everywhere in the city center.

The guys at the reception were very helpful and friendly.

I could have not asked for better.

Room Tip: Top floor - it is the most expensive one but it has a balcony and the size is good.

The Exchange is a really cool hotel in a fantastic location. We originally could only stretch to a 3 star room but on arrival we were given a free upgrade to 5 star which was a great start to our stay. The room was excellent, great size for Amsterdam where most rooms are quite small. Very clean and stylish. The hotel reception staff were really friendly and were extremely helpful when it came to things like tram tickets and finding our way around.
This hotel is located right in the heart of Amsterdam. Main tram routes, shopping areas and the central station is in close walking distance.
I love the decor of the hotel and the concept that they've gone for. Really worth a stay especially when our room even came with a Nespresso Pixie coffee maker, very impressed!

So I booked this hotel because I figured it would be nice, being that we were visiting Amsterdam for the first time, I wanted something different. This hotel is certainly different. The room we booked (the Tiger Dragon Slayers Room) was small. It was different, and it kinda of threw me off AT FIRST. But it had EVERY SINGLE THING we wanted in a room. The hotel was decorated by Art Students so no room is decorated the same. Which was cool. All over the hotel was different pieces of work and it was cool to wander around the hotel looking at the art. I booked a 1 star room, I would definitely stay here again, but get a bigger room. I loved it.

This hotel is in an excellent location, a short walk from the Central train station, sight seeing tours across the street, the red light district, numerous bars, cafes and restaurants within a block or two as well as high end shopping a block in the other direction.

The staff was very welcoming and the room unique and very comfortable.
