“Excellent location, clean rooms, lovely staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2012

We stayed for two nights in June. The hotel is about a three to four minute walk from centraal station, quite easy to find as long as you know whereabouts you're looking. I'd definitely recommend having a quick look on google street view so you can see the other shops by the entrance. Because it doesn't have a large frontage, it's just a doorway.

We arrived at 2.30, check in is 3pm. They happily held our bags for us til check in, but for some reason our room wasn't ready til gone 4pm. They offered us a free coffee in their coffee shop next door, so we just waited a bit and watched he people going up an down Damrak.

Our room was fine. I can't reall say 'nice' as it was a plain white room, white walls, white blinds, white floor, white bed, white chair, with a few gold lamps. I know this is the 'design' aspect, we caught a glimpse of another room while was being cleaned, it looked alot more interesting than our room.

That said, the room was spotlessly clean, which must be difficult for a white room lol. Wasn't terribly small either. Dont get me wrong, it WAS small, but I've been in smaller in NYC. There was room for our bags and room to walk past one another.

We stayed in room 602, top floor at the back of the building. We requested a quiet room with opening windows, and 602 for the bill perfectly. It was quiet, but with the windows open we could eat the church bells from dam sq. but that didn't bother us, and we both slept really well. I'm a terrible light sleeper too, so it must of been really quiet.

Another plus point, the TV had bbc2 and cbbc. So at least we could put on a bit of tv in the background while we got ready.

All in all I would definitely stay here again.

Great location, great staff, and clean comfortable rooms.

We stayed in a 2 star room. It was as expected - very small and basic room (not much room around the bed), small but clean bathroom with decent fittings, small TV, and heating. Beware for summer stays that there is no air-conditioning. We faced into the centre of the buildings on the block (i.e. not onto a street), meaning there was not street noise. However, there was plenty of noise from people climbing the stairs and when talking the the hallway. Great location being only a few minutes walk from Centraal Station (direct train to airport). The staff were very friendly and helpful.

A few steps from Central Station, the Dam, shopping streets and restaurants. Friendly helpfull staff. Recently renovated (or opened). Clean. Comfy bed. I don't know for all the rooms, but ours was very quiet since the window was facing the "back alley", wich is good since Damrak street is pretty busy and can be quite loud. A great experience. I would definitly go back!

I loved The Exchange! Very friendly front desk service made for easy check in. The hotel was less expensive than many others in the immediate area. It's an easy walk from the Central Station. The room was charming with simple, but lovely decor. The cafe next door (which is owned by the hotel or vice versa), also had delicious food and desserts.

Two things to note. My room faced Damrak and the street noise was not completely filtered out by the window. I can sleep through anything, but if you are a light sleeper or don't plan to stay out late, perhaps request a room not facing Damrak. Also, the floors are concrete, which is great in summer, but might be a little chilly in winter.

This hotel is very small like most of the hotels on Damrak. We even missed it first time around as the entrance is hidden between little street cafes. Reception personnel was very helpful, polite and spoke perfect English (as pretty much anyone in Amsterdam). The room was small but very cute. Big bed occupies pretty much whole room with some space left for luggage but it is very comfy and we slept very well all 3 nights we stayed in the hotel. Would recommend it to couples as the hotel seems to be quite romantic but the rooms might be little small for families with children.
