The apartment is the 2nd floor of a 4 story building, consisting of a living/dining room, kitchen, bedroom and separate bathroom (with only a shower) and toilet. An owner lives on the 4th floor, and is always available for assistance. The living area has a nice flat screen (though not HD), with satellite TV (about a dozen channels in English--news, CNBC, History and Discovery and an old movie channel, and a nice stereo system wired into both the living area and kitchen, which has coffee machine, coffeemaker, dishwasher, gas stove and microwave, including all utensils. The bed is queen size, and there is some closet space. Nice bathroom. Very fast wifi available for free through the owner.
The location is about 250 meters from a tram/bus stop, which is two stops from Centraal Station, and 1 stop or a short walk to Dam Square. It's also near Anne Frank House, and generally near three canals in the Jordaan district, two of which you walk over to get to the tram. It's basically off a side street to the main walkway through Jordaan, and so it's a short walk to several shops and restaurants. Although mostly very quiet and no tourist traffic, there is a business of some sort across the street and there is some vehicle traffic. Some noise from renovation work in the area also, when I was there in November 2011. Very quiet at night, though and no problem sleeping.
This is a newish apartment in an older building--you will have shared heating pipes with the downstairs neighbor (there's a thermostat, but you need to leave it alone), and you may hear a mouse in the woodwork at night, but the furnishings are modern and it's basically a cool apartment in a cool neighborhood in a cool city. I enjoyed it.
