“Perfect Hotel. Lovely Stay. Deposit is only downside.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

I stayed here in December and had a lovely stay.
I will state the ONE bad point first as there are so many good points!
The bad point is the deposit that you have to pay on arrival, you are not notified prior to arriving at the hotel so you could be left short on money if you dont take a spare £50 per night deposit.
I stayed for 3 nights and our room was always cleaned and supplied with new toiletiries.
Shampoo is provided in a despencer in the shower which is funnily enough a great idea for the forgetfuls! (me)
The staff are very friendly and always say hello.
I had the breakfast which in my opion was very nic for hot or cold choices.
The beds are VERY comforable and the views from the higher rooms are beautiful! Stay on a higher level for beautiful views.
The sky bar is stunning and while i was there it was snowing so again the views were amazing.
There is a free shuttle from the airport to this hotel and it is only 5 euros back but book this on arrival.
Grab the 13 tram into the heart of amsterdam for around 7.50 euros for a days tram and train pass.

My friend surprised me with a 4 day trip to Amsterdam for my birthday. We stayed at the Ramada Apollo Hotel for 4 days and 3 nights (26.01.13 - 29.01.13) and I have to say it the hotel was even more than I could have ever expected! It was extremely clean and very comfortable and spacious! The staff were very friendly and would try to help wherever possible. Although the hotel is not close to the city centre it was only one short tram/bus ride away and we managed to get about without any problems and got to see all the sights to their full potential.
If I had anything to mark it down on it would be the food. My friend is a vegetarian and there wasn't much choice for her. However we found this to be the case in most places we ate around the city. However all other food was superb! Would highly recommend this hotel and will be planning to return in the near future myself!

the hotel is modern and beautiful the rooms are spacious and clean we stayed there as our flight got cancelled. at meal times there were only a choice of rice and chicken or beef curry at dinner and for lunch bread, cheese, ham and mushroom soup made with power! we were gobsmacked! everyone was so shocked we all thought it was a joke to begin with but no joke that was it. A huge let down whan you compare this to the gorgeous rooms the sky lounge is lovely 17th floor over looking part of amsterdam its a while from the centre tho.

Room Tip: higher the room better the view

My partner and I stayed at the hotel from 24.01.2013 til 27.01.2013 (3 nights). The transfer from the airport was great (every 40 mins), the driver very helpful & friendly. On arrival at the hotel we checked in at Reception, the staff were professional but not particularly welcoming. We were asked to charge a card to the room & when we enquired as to why, we were told this was for city tax 5% per room, per night and any extras, drinks, etc.

We had booked our trip to include bed & bedfast (paid in advance), but on departure had been invoiced for our breakfast & several of the drinks over the stay had been duplicated to the room account. The invoice was queried, corrected and reduced from almost £300 to £59.50!!

The only problem with the room was no bath & the windows could not be opened so room quickly became stuffy.

Overall, a lovely hotel, Floor 17 is a must visit. Food beautiful. Close to city centre on Tram 13. We would go back again.

Room Tip: Great views of the city, higher floors better if you dont mind heights!

We stayed at this hotel for a weekend and as a regular traveller I thought this place was great. So firstly we had booked to come here for a weekend in December but due to heavy snow our flight was cancelled- this hotel was booked and it clearly stated it was non refundable when booking, I rang the hotel and explained the situation and they let us change the date to match out new flight itinerary. On arrival on the new date the free shuttle bus to the airport was excellent- friendly helpful and as there were 14 in the group the driver came back well before the scheduled time to pick the remaining persons up! We arrived about 4 hours before check in time yet they still allowed us to go to our rooms and when we asked to swap rooms about so we could all be together- again no bother. The staff were friendly and could not do enough to help! The hotel is not located centrally but the metro stop is right outside and a 10-15 min journey to centre. The rooms are excellent and great value for what you pay, really enjoyed my stay here and would recommend it to all.

My boyfriend and I stayed here between 16th-19th Jan 2013. On arrival at the airport we headed for the 'hotel shuttle buses' (clearly signposted) - if you go straight to stop A9, this is where the free shuttle bus to the hotel will pick you up (5 euro return - return fee paid on the way back to the hotel at the end of your trip). The shuttle took about 15-20mins and the driver was really friendly and welcoming - as were all of the Dutch people we met on the trip. We got dropped off right outside the hotel and staff were really helpful at check in. We arrived at 11am and were kindly allowed to check in early. Please be aware that deposit is 50euro per night of stay - when you leave at the end of the trip ask for it to be returned to the card it came from as they gave it back to us in euros, luckily we realised we would lose out on the exchange rate and asked for it to be put back on the card. The lobby is really modern and chalet style - with small sofas and 'fireplace' TV's.

Our room was on the 9th floor so about halfway up - still a good view. The rooms are fairly small but still a good size, with storage built into the head of the bed for hanging and storing clothes (but no actual headboard which at first is strange but you get used to it quickly!) The room had a chaise longue by the window and a desk. The TV had all the normal English channels on - not sure if the hotel had kindly done this as they knew we are English? The ensuite is really modern and spacious but no bath. The water pressure was a bit touch and go - we didn't have a power shower to say the least but that might have just been the pressure in our room, I'm not sure. Room comes with a safe. One day we put the wrong code in and had to get someone from reception to unlock it, he came right away without any fuss and was really polite about it. On the 17th floor is the sky-view bar and restaurant, with amazing views over the city. The buffet breakfast is really nice, a mix of continental and some English breakfast variants (sausage, mushrooms, scrambled egg). The bar is lovely at night, and on Fri&Sat night they have a DJ. Every night you arrive at the bar you get a free shot each - a great touch. Cocktail prices start at around 8euros, beers 4-5euros, spirits around 5euros without the mixer. Prices in the city itself vary, but around this price. Main courses in the city were between 10-20euros on average.

On arrival at the hotel we were given 2 maps of the city (which proved to be a godsend) and directions to the tram just across the road from the hotel which takes you right into the middle of Amsterdam (tram 13, every 7-8mins or so). It is 2.80euros for a single trip or 7.50euros for 24 hours - we chose the 24 hour option as it allowed us to go back to the hotel in the afternoon and then back out for dinner in the evening. The tram takes between 10-15minutes but is a pleasant ride. The 24 hour tickets can be used on any tram service in the city.

Things to do: Anne Frank's house (an amazing experience, around 15euros each), the Heineken experience (18 euros each, takes around 1.5-2 hours, lots of free beer and a gift at the end, plus the chance to make your own personalised bottle of beer), the sex museum (4euros each) and the red light district! Plus the 'coster diamond' exhibition near the Rijksmuseum (free) - shows the worlds smallest and biggest diamonds plus lots of pretty jewellery - really good one for the girls! There are lots of 'coffeeshops' around - anything with these exact words on are marijuana shops, actual coffee houses will have different names.

When we went it had just snowed and was VERY cold - take lots of warm clothing and good boots for walking in. Keep a map on you as all the streets/canals look the same!

Overall a really lovely hotel - would recommend this highly to anyone. Lovely food, drinks and service. A***!

Our first impression was good because the shuttle driver was very friendly and helpful. Once we got into the hotel, the friendliness was over. The ladies at the front desk are very efficient but they really make you feel like you are taking too much of their time.
The room: we had booked a room for a couple and a child. I even made sure that this was clear during check in, but when we got to the room, there was just one bed! The room itself is very well appointed and in good taste, on the small side though.
Location: convenient to tram stop(about 20 min from central Amsterdam)
The hotel is located right in the middle of a park which is very pleasant. Would stay there again as it's totally worth riding the tram for a much nicer place than anything in the same price range in central Amsterdam.
